Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS) located in San José, CA. is looking for a Community Engagement Coordinator to support the organization’s growing community engagement efforts. This individual must be highly organized and possess excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work flexibly and creatively and have a passion for our mission – to change lives and impact poverty. For almost 50 years, SHCS has been one of the leading institutions addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines meeting basic needs, offering tools for self-sufficiency, and engaging the wider community to be involved.

Position Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator supports SHCS’ efforts to engage, nurture, and develop community involvement in and support for the vision, mission, and programs of SHCS. As a member of SHCS’ Community Engagement team, this multifaceted position is responsible for supporting SHCS’ efforts to establish and develop powerful relationships with community partners. The CEC organizes and staffs programs, trainings, workshops, and events designed to reach out, orient, educate, coordinate, and inspire community members and organizations to support the vital work of SHCS through volunteerism, financial and in-kind donations. The position serves as a liaison between internal programs and external community partners, and provides general support to the overall Community Development Team.

This position reports to the Community Engagement Manager.

Description of Duties
• Corresponds with drive partners over the phone and email to help set up logistics for receiving donations, as well as picking up drives. Keeps an updated record of current drives
• Leads and inspires volunteers of various ages with duties that help us fulfill our mission.
• Assists in the coverage of the volunteer desk including scheduling volunteers, responding to emails and phone calls and maintaining all volunteer office related materials
• Leads Volunteer Orientations, group and donor tours
• Supports the planning and implementation of agency-wide programs, events, training, and outreach efforts
• Actively participates in the agency-wide Pack A Back (PAB) and Holiday program and is available for work during this period. This includes 2 mandatory weekends during PAB and 2 weekends during the Holidays.
• Organizes, schedules, and participates in community outreach activities including presentations, community events, service fairs, networking events and others
• Partners with Funds Development team to ensure collaboration in outreach efforts
• Speaks about Sacred Heart, its services and mission to all volunteers
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience
• Strong commitment to our vision of ensuring every child and adult is free from poverty
• Four-year degree or equivalent experience
• Strong customer service skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, compassion, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a can-do attitude
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and deal with ambiguity and the unexpected
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to maintain a regular 30-40 hours per week schedule
• Ability to work some nights and weekends
• Ability to lift up to 30lbs without assistance and up to 50lbs with assistance
• The position requires you to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
• The position also requires computer use up to 6-8 hours per day
• Must be insurable under the Agency driving insurance requirements
• Must successfully pass a DMV and Criminal background check

Preferred (but not required)
• Basic graphic design software proficiency;
• Bilingual English-Spanish.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience. This is a temporary, part time, non-exempt position, with the possibility of permanent employment based on funding and performance.
