Bilingual Program Assistant – Oakland – Building Skills Partnership

DESCRIPTION
Building Skills Partnership is a statewide non-profit organization and a unique collaboration between responsible businesses and the Service Employees International Union to build a strong future for low-wage service workers and their families by advancing skills, opportunities and self-sufficiency.

Thousands of low-wage workers dream of a better future for their families. Help break the language and skill barriers by expanding the reach of BSP’s educational programs in the East Bay.
The Program Assistant is an Americorps VISTA position and will be working closely with low-wage property service workers who are primarily immigrant workers as well as with their employers. The Program Assistant will focus on the capacity building and infrastructure of BSP’s educational programs.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the capacity building and infrastructure of Building Skills Partnership programs in the East Bay area.
Assist in the development and expansion of the Parent Engagement and Financial Literacy programs by assessing the needs of workers in the East Bay and developing relationships with local partners and community based organizations.
Help BSP expand and oversee classes and student recruitment and retention in English as a Second Language, Computer Literacy and other skills for property service workers and their families.
Coordinate and implement parent engagement and financial literacy trainings in the community or at worksites.
Help build database and tracking system for funding opportunities. Research public and private funding for parent engagement and financial literacy programs.
Interact and develop partnerships with other community organizations and educational institutions to implement parent engagement and financial literacy program.
Assist with developing informative and marketing material regarding the parent engagement and financial literacy program.
Available to coordinate and implement programming, training and workshops on some weekends, evenings and nights.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or other relevant subject
Bilingual in Spanish/English, written and verbal is required
Strong social, written, and verbal communication skills
Motivated self-starter who is able to work independently as well as a solid team player
Experience with or knowledge of financial literacy programs a plus
Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, & Access)
Permanent Residency or Citizenship (AmeriCorps requirement)
1 year commitment
Must have a flexible schedule, including being available on weekends, evenings and nights when necessary.
Must have transportation to visit various training sites

BENEFITS
This is a paid volunteer position through AmeriCorps VISTA, a national public service program. The start date will be November 2016. Benefits include:
A $5,730 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a $1,500 post-service stipend
Modest Living Allowance @$24,120 Annually
+ Monthly Housing Allowance @ $1,000/ month
+ Monthly Cell phone Allowance @ $65/month
Healthcare benefits and Childcare assistance
One year forbearance or deferment of student loans while in service
