Membership Manager – Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC)

Summary: The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) is seeking a Membership Manager, who will be the organization’s lead position responsible for growing and serving LACBC’s membership. The selected candidate will create and implement membership development campaigns, including direct outreach and recruitment events, direct mail, electronic media, acknowledgements, incentives, and tracking. S/he is responsible for the management and delivery of a comprehensive membership experience for new and existing LACBC members. S/he will also be responsible for creating our business membership strategy and program and must build partnerships with diverse individuals and local businesses to advocate for membership and partnerships with LACBC. Specific attention will be provided to improving our membership to better reflect the diversity of Los Angeles County. S/he will support LACBC’s growing network of local chapters by developing resources that make the chapter membership process run seamlessly with the sign up for membership through HQ. S/he will also be responsible for working with other staff members and the board to engage members and ensure that their voices shape our work. The Membership Manger reports to the Director of Development.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required and 1-2 years of membership management, marketing, customer service, or similar work experience.
Advanced degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience (2-5 years) in the fields of development, customer service, volunteer, or membership recruitment and retention, membership organizing.
Individuals with relevant membership (individual, group, and business) recruitment and retention experience strongly encouraged to apply.
Willingness to work after hours and weekends when necessary and ability to work independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience public speaking, presenting in front of large groups, and facilitating meetings.
Fluency in Spanish preferred.
Self-motivated, creative, organized, detail-oriented, and energetic.
Experience working in low-income communities of color preferred.
Experience working in an organization with a chapter or affiliate model.
Experience supervising complex campaigns with multiple stakeholders and organizing, recruiting, and motivating volunteers and interns.
Solid Customer Relationship Management database skills.
Strong grasp of spreadsheets, standard computer systems, programs, and tools. LACBC uses Google Apps, Gmail, NationBuilder, WordPress, and Square.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Development Director, the Membership Manager will create and implement membership development campaigns, including direct outreach and recruitment events, direct mail, electronic media, acknowledgements, incentives, and tracking. S/he will also be responsible for maintaining the member database and fulfilling membership donations and purchases with support from volunteers and staff. We seek a person for full-time work who is comfortable and productive working with minimal supervision in an environment that is fast-paced and entrepreneurial.

Membership Management

Develop and manage strategies, systems, and protocols for new member/donor recruitment.
Maintain and build upon current processes for acquiring, retaining, and upgrading individual members.
Grow business and organization member program.
Support development and communications staff with database lists, tools, etc.
Update and maintain membership-related pages on website.
Analyze membership data and develop creative strategies to increase development opportunities and advocacy activities.
Work with Executive Team to increase individual giving and better integrate membership into sponsorship packages.
Maintain renewal schedule for membership and send email and hard-copy renewal solicitations.
Fulfill merchandise purchases.

Membership Engagement

Provide excellent customer service.
Create engaging communications for potential supporters.
Represent LACBC at events and meetings to share membership benefits.
Manage member recruitment drives and events (Bike to Work Day, CicLAvia, etc.).
Engage and educate membership volunteers.
Support management of and integrate membership into LACBC events.
Schedule, organize, and staff membership events, including monthly Sunday Funday Rides and the LACBC Open House.

LACBC Organizational Team Work

Respond quickly to emails, attend regular staff meetings, and keep regular records.
Attend staff retreats and conferences as requested.
Respond to requests from your supervisor for special projects, as needed.
Participate in fundraising efforts for the organization and to sustain this position.
Work as a team player to fulfill the missions and goals of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition.
