Experienced Manager, Institutes and Meeting Services – Council on Undergraduate Research – Washington, DC

Position Summary

Primary Areas of Responsibility and Specific Duties

The staff lead for Institutes and Meeting Services has primary responsibility for organizing CUR’s portfolio of faculty and administrative professional development programs and will also perform other duties as assigned, including support for organizational governance and student programs. Meeting formats include webinars, 3-4 small (less than 60 attendees) institutes, and 2-3 larger (several hundred attendees) conferences per year. Specific duties include working with meeting host sites and vendors (catering, audiovisual, hotel, campus, etc.), creating meeting registration applications, completing data-entry and setup of meetings in association management software, helping to create targeted marketing of meetings to participants and sponsors, communications with participants, speakers, and sponsors, preparing and shipping electronic and hard copy materials needed for meetings, billing and collections, ensuring all bills, stipends and reimbursements are accurate and processed in a timely manner, budgetary reporting including special support for grant sponsored projects, and evaluations for participants, facilitators, and programs. As part of a small office team, you will be expected to bring your innovative ideas and positive energy into the work environment, actively support the success of all of your co-workers and our members, and contribute your ideas to the strategic development of the organization.

Necessary Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
Three to five years of relevant experience in a fast-paced professional environment, including experience working with higher education stakeholders, particularly faculty and administrators
Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse perspectives;
Excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail;
Self-starter who works well in small groups;
Adept at working on multiple projects under deadline pressures;
High degree of customer service skills in both oral and written communication, as well as creative problem-solving skills;
Solid background in computers and software, particularly MS Office products; database management, and website maintenance;

Preferred qualifications:

Current Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) status;
Experience working in a college campus setting, and/or with programs/associations supporting higher education;
Familiarity with and prior use of databases, web-based, and social networking tools in a business setting.
