Director of Fund and Program Development – Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries – Houston, TX

The Organization

Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries, Inc. (ACAM) is a 501 (c) 3 public charity and management support organization with a mission to advance high-impact collaboration, service excellence and organizational development among community assistance ministries. ACAM’s services include: capacity building, organizational assessment, consulting across all levels of organizational development, executive mentoring, and advocacy and outreach. ACAM also provides networking, training and collaborative opportunities with other organizations to its members. Members are faith-based non-profits, namely Community Assistance Ministries (CAMs), which provide basic needs such as food, clothing, rent and utility assistance. ACAM’s members serve as the social safety net for those in need in the Greater Houston area. ACAM has developed a high-performing network of social purpose ministries, funders and community partners who, through synergistic alliances, affect change for those in need. ACAM’s annual operating budget is approximately $2M. ACAM is comprised of three full-time staff including the CEO, the Director of Operations and Evaluation and the currently unfilled position of Director of Fund and Program Development. ACAM manages several project-based consultants in addition to paid staff.

The Position

Under the direction of the CEO, the Director of Fund and Program Development develops, manages and implements fundraising, program and marketing strategies with minimal supervision and may be asked to perform other duties as needed. Specific duties include:

Grant Management

Research and write public and private grant applications to fund ACAM’s ongoing capacity building, networking and training programming, as well as applications on behalf of the collaborative of ACAM members.
Assist with grant writing projects of the CEO, grant program design and grant reporting in addition to developing and managing the ACAM Grant Calendar. Assist in the implementation of grants, ensure compliance requirements are met, and establish outcome reporting measures and documentation.
Oversee and manage the RFP process for the Capacity Building Grant Program issued annually to members and for funding offered through collaborative initiatives as it becomes available.

Program & Event Management

Work closely with the CEO in the management and coordination of ACAM’s annual funder appreciation events, fundraising events and networking and training programs. Develop the annual networking, fundraising and training event schedule in conjunction with consultants and member ministries.
Support to and oversight of consultants hired to: coordinate, execute and evaluate community networking events and trainings; perform capacity assessments for members; and conduct internal and external audits on an as-needed basis.
Assist the CEO in working with partner organizations to assess current offerings and develop networking opportunities and training programs to meet the evolving needs of members.

Donation & Sponsorship Management

Request and cultivate donations and sponsorships from foundations, corporations and individuals to finance ACAM operations, programs, events and collaborative member initiatives.
Maintain donor relationships, databases and files with a high degree of organization and integrity.
Evaluate ongoing fundraising programs, provide monthly fundraising reports, and prepare reports to funders on grant outputs and outcomes, including narrative reports, etc.

Marketing Management

Assist the CEO in marketing and public relations related to event planning, press conferences, and media events. Raise awareness of ACAM by participating in community events and conferences.
Develop and update ACAM’s printed and electronic marketing materials.
Expand ACAM’s social media, media and web presence and exposure.

Candidate Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

Ability to operate Microsoft Office Systems (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook) is required. Adobe InDesign experience is a plus.
Must be organized, efficient and effectively implement projects and meet target deadlines; strong ability to adapt to change, multi-task and be a team player.
Self-motivation and self-direction skills with the highest standard of personal, professional and technical integrity.
A high level of personal creativity and the ability to develop and maintain an environment that stimulates creative thinking.
Strong technical, analytical and critical thinking skills and working knowledge of data management and analysis.
A clear understanding of social service ministries and their role in the community.
Strong, cross-culturally sensitive interpersonal and communication skills with people at all socio-economic levels; orally, in writing and in developing and giving presentations.
Ability to understand all aspects of non-profit management including financial statements and revenue models.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Management and Work Experience

Minimum of five to eight years in management or equivalent experience with non-profit organizations in fund and program development with management responsibilities.
Expertise in program design and delivery and familiarity with organizational capacity building strategies.
Proven ability to write grants and a successful track record in fundraising and relationship building.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects, events, and programs.
Experience with Foundation Center and other grant research tools.

Experience working with faith based organizations is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

COMPENSATION

$50,000 – $60,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Competitive medical and retirement benefits package.
