Director of Advancement / Communications – First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA)

First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA) is seeking a full-time Director of Advancement & Communications.

General Summary:

The Director of Advancement and Communications will be responsible for all communications for internal (i.e. membership) and external constituencies and facilitating special events. The Director of Advancement and Communications will be responsible for the website as a primary vehicle for presenting the organization to the public, including acquiring new members. The Director of Advancement and Communications will develop, lead, and implement an annual stewardship plan with goals, initiatives, and metrics. Primary responsibilities include supporting the Board of Trustees (“Board”), Senior Minister, and Chief Administrative Officer (“CAO”) in cultivating and securing endowments, major gifts, overseeing the fundraising objectives including individual, corporate, foundation, special events and web-based fundraising, and managing the advancement and communications staff. The stewardship goals and initiative must be designed to be effective and cost-effective in their support of the organization’s overall goals for the fiscal year and include performance milestones that are measureable.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the CAO):

Establishing the overall communications plan for First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (“FCCLA”) including social media, advertising, marketing, branding, public relations and the development of all related materials;
Creating all worship materials;
Creating an annual report, bimonthly newsletters, and a weekly email newsletter from the Senior Minister;
Establishing the annual stewardship goals and strategies to achieve them;
Planning, managing, and leading stewardship campaigns;
Soliciting endowments and major gifts;
Providing staff support to the Board, Senior Minister, and CAO;
Developing training and solicitation materials for Board, executive, and advancement staff;
Participating in strategic planning with the Board and executive staff;
Manage advancement operations, including database management of members and contacts, acknowledgement letters, and recognition systems;
Planning and managing the 150th FCCLA Anniversary celebrations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervision of advancement and communications team. Will also have oversight of volunteers.

Job Requirements:

You will be required to work all Sundays. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to Sunday availability.
Bachelor’s Degree required (Master’s Degree preferred);
Experience in the development of a communication plan;
Proven track record and success in leading endowment or major gifts initiatives;
At least 5 years’ management experience in a high-level, professional development/advancement environment;
Leadership responsibility in annual, capital, or endowment campaigns;
Experience working with high-profile leaders such as major donors and corporate executives;
Excellent strategic planning skills and solid background as strong fundraising generalist;
Demonstrated success as team leader;
Knowledge of fundraising vendors and the fundraising community;
Highly articulate, with excellent oral and written communication skills; will be required to submit examples of several different types of materials to demonstrate creativity both verbally and in writing;
High degree of proficiency in the use of standard information technologies, including Microsoft software and internet research;
Experience with donor databases required (Shelby Systems preferred);
A team player, with strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability, and a positive attitude;
Experience with supervising employees and directing volunteers.
