Dining Services Manager – Society of St Vincent de Paul of Alameda County – Oakland, CA

Our mission is to provide nutritious meals and foodservices programs to the St. Vincent de Paul community and others within Alameda County.

The Dining Services Manager works closely and collaboratively with other SVDP staff to design, implement and maintain the consistency and quality of dining services operations and programs. Primary focus areas include the management of food operations in the SVDP Free Dining Room and Community/Drop-in centers. Other main responsibilities involve supporting the delivery of foodservice/culinary instruction to culinary program participants and overseeing groups and personnel in food operations areas .

Duties and Responsibilities

● Oversee and coordinate the efficiency and consistency of daily foodservice operations/programs in the Dining Room; Community/Drop in centers etc to best utilize food donations and available resources

● Facilitate food service training and curriculum based culinary instruction to participants in job training programs

● Collaborate to design, implement, review and manage the operations of dining services areas and programs meal service to clients Dining Room and centers; meals for special events, catering and food service contract;

● Assist in foodservice planning, menu development for dining services areas (mobile foodtrailer program; foodservices contracts; food redistribution programs)

● Support ongoing/periodic training kitchen/foodservices personnel in key dining services areas (eg. basic food safety sessions with volunteers in the kitchen and dining room)

● Collaborate to train staff to ensure compliance with foodservices areas/operations with health regulations and industry standards (eg meeting health dept food services safety codes; proper inventory and storage management)

● Gather and analyze relevant data to identify and plan food services operations and implement process improvement and industry compliance strategies

● Collaborate to ensure the compliance of dining service and foodservices areas with labor laws and organisation’s policies

● Support the scheduling of personnel (oncall, event, project, fulltime staff, training program participants) for daily and event foodservices operations, internally and externally

● Assist in maintaining vendor/partner relationships and cost control/reduction mechanisms

● Assist in financial processes eg. invoice for foodservices operations for meal contracts and catering events; approve timesheets and organize payroll of (oncall, event, project, fulltime) staff and training program participants for daily and event foodservices operations, internally and externally

● Evaluate personnel (oncall, event, project, fulltime staff, training program participants)

● Represent organization at internal and external events

Desired Skills & Qualifications include:

● BA, BSc in food services, hospitality or related field is preferred

● At least 3 years, front of house or catering supervision experience, and/or commercial kitchen management experience

● At least 2 years direct experience in training/coaching and developing personnel

● Excellent interpersonal ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds; to collaborate and rally different teams or workgroups(volunteers, clients, staff, trainees)

● Strong organizational, and communications skills; Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

● Excellent and effective time management and problemsolving skills; ability to successfully manage projects from concept to completion.

● Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel and MS Word); Google Drive and internet

● Experience working with budgets and reports as well as food cost control experience

● Demonstrated ability to successfully meet Industry Food Safety and Sanitation standards

● Experience with food service contracts or (food service) business development is a bonus

● Must Pass criminal background check
