About Us: Mississippi News and Information Corporation (MSNIC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan digital news startup that will aggressively and objectively cover state and local government affairs and community issues, including education, health, poverty and race, as well as Mississippi’s social culture. We are seeking reporters to join our staff based in Jackson, MS. The staff will produce high-quality reporting to act as a government watchdog, support the functioning democracy and help shape the future of the state. We believe that increasing citizen awareness, including how government action affects people and communities, will lead to greater civic engagement. Job Description and Qualifications:

Candidates for this position should have 3-5 years of proven experience and knowledge of annual giving program implementation, donor development, successful grant writing and relationship maintenance, as well as experience in the qualifications listed below.

Leading role in planning and implementing MSNIC’s strategy of promoting the news brand of MSNIC through both traditional and social media.

Experience with a journalistic news or media organization/endeavor is preferred.

Develop a long-term plan to build relationships with corporate partners or other significant donors to underwrite ongoing efforts, including plans to sponsor single or recurring events around our news coverage in venues around the state.

Develop strategies for promoting new membership and maintaining member relationships to foster long-term relationships.

Develop a planned giving program.

A track record of successful grant writing and the ability to build the infrastructure to sustain and grow grant funds and any required reporting.

Manage sales of digital advertising space and coordinate advertising placement on the various platforms (desktop, mobile, social media, etc.).

Develop new, and reinforce existing, relationships with foundations to explore and secure long-term opportunities for potential support (grants and other) for our efforts.

Develop, with the management team, annual budget and multi-year forecasts for marketing, advertising, corporate sponsorships, memberships, foundations and other potential revenue streams.

Excellent communicator, both oral and written, and people-focused with strong interpersonal skills. Politically and technologically savvy.

Creative problem solver and conceptual thinker with strong future orientation.

College degree in marketing, business, journalism, public policy or equivalent study is preferred.
