About POTS

Part of the Solution (POTS) is a ‘one-stop shop’ helping low-income individuals and families move from crisis to stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency. POTS helps more than 25,000 people, including 8,000 children, annually. Currently, services include a Community Dining Room; a Food Pantry; Clothing Room, Shower, and Mail Facilities; Barbershop; Case Management; a Legal Clinic; and the POTS Family Club. POTS also holds a variety of seasonal distributions for items such as back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving turkeys, and holiday gifts and is host to the Immigrant Justice Corps and a Medical and Dental Clinic.

About the position

Working closely with the development team, the Development Associate is responsible for handling, writing and disseminating communications to POTS supporters, organizing large and small organizational publicity and fundraising events, conducting outreach and cultivation and providing general support for other activities in the development department.

Media and Organizational Communications: As part of the Development Department work to create and maintain development materials, disseminate communications and seek to elevate POTS public presence according to the communication calendar in the development plan.

Events: Lead or assist in the planning, execution and follow-up of events for ongoing and expanded donor engagement. Utilize events to generate ongoing involvement and elevate POTS’ public presence.

Outreach, Cultivation and Solicitation: Grow POTS’ base of support via researching, planning, approaching, cultivating and soliciting support from those with the proclivity and capability of providing in-kind and financial support to further POTS’ mission.

Required Attributes

Bachelor’s degree.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including letters, marketing materials, email and phone communications.

1-2 years’ experience in development, marketing, sales or public relations role – including internships.

Organized and can manage multiple, simultaneous projects from start to finish.

Enjoys focusing on small details and values the difference that a detailed approach can make.

Strong, functional knowledge of the MS Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Enjoys interaction with the diverse stakeholders in a nonprofit organization, including donors, volunteers, media and staff.

Willing to work 1-2 weekend days a month and some evenings.

Preferred Attributes

Experience in a human services organization

Experience with developing promotional materials from start to finish

Experience working with constituent relationship management (CRM) software, websites and social media
Licensed Driver
