Controller – Downtown Women’s Center – Los Angeles, CA

Oversees the day-to-day accounting functions for the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and semi-monthly payroll.
Completes month-end close-out procedures, including reviewing and validating general ledger activity, reviewing and entering payroll, preparing and entering month-end journal entries, and completing bank reconciliations.
Prepares government grant invoices and works with Accounting Manager to ensure accurate backup documentation is included in submissions.
Reconciles revenue coding with Development Department on a monthly basis.
Prepares grant reports for the Development Department as needed.
Monitors daily cash balances and informs senior management of cash flow issues in a timely manner.
Keeps accounting policies and procedures up to date and in compliance with government grant requirements.
Maintains accounts receivable ledger and assists with the tracking and collection of funds as needed.
Works with Accounting Manager to ensure that cost allocations are completed accurately.
Serves as lead on-site staff for the annual audit and government grant audits.
Serves as the liaison with banking and investment management vendors.
Assists with preparing compliance reports as required by agency lenders.
Works in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer on the annual audit, annual tax filings, budget, and monthly financials.
Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar field and at least five years of experience in related positions required. Non-profit and government grant experience strongly preferred.
Experience in all facets of the accounting cycle from the transactional level to month-end and annual close-out.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to articulate and explain complex financial issues effectively.
Strong organizational and administrative skills that include the ability to see the big picture.
Demonstrated record as a successful team player, including the ability to develop and maintain a goal-oriented, positive attitude throughout the organization; must be able to interface equally well with the Board of Directors, executive staff, direct reports, and the general DWC community.
