Controller – Bet Tzedek Legal Services – Los Angeles, CA

CLASSIFICATION: Management (Non-Union)

REPORTS TO: VP, Finance/CFO

Responsible for establishing and maintaining a system to provide functions of budgeting, day-to-day accounting and reporting to Board of Directors and private and public funders in an accurate, consistent and timely manner. Supervise permanent and volunteer accounting department staff to ensure compliance with all controls and reporting requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Establish and maintain systems for internal controls

Develop and monitor procedures and perform internal and external staff training on accounting procedures and concepts

Oversee financial and cost analysis for internal budget forecasting

Prepare grant budgets and applications, working with Senior Accountant and CFO

Complete designated duties related to month-end processing to assist with completion of financial statements by the tenth of each month

Audit consistent use of required funding and grant codes on every transaction in MIP accounting system; perform analysis of fund and grant revenue and expenses as part of month-end closing

Guide Senior Accountant in the tracking, acquisition and disposal of fixed assets

QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS in Accounting; Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate preferred

5+ years of accounting experiences, experience with non-profit accounting preferred

Excellent command of GAAP procedures

Proficiency in Blackbaud accounting software or other similar software platforms

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and partner with staff
