Bookkeeper – Alzheimer’s Foundation of America – Port Washington, NY

AFA History: The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) was founded by a consortium of organizations to fill the gap that existed on a national level to assure quality of care and excellence in service to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses, and to their caregivers and families.

Position Summary: As a member of the AFA Finance Team, the Bookkeeper will manage the daily financial operations for LIAF, under the supervision and direction of the AFA Finance Department. This position will be based in the LIAF Office in Port Washington, Long Island.

Responsibilities

1. Accounts Payable

Manage the entire A/P cycle; code, enter and post vendor invoices, bank reconciliation, and credit card reconciliation and expense reports.
Maintain and update all vendor records and invoice files.

2. Accounts Receivable

Manage the entire A/R cycle; prepare client invoices; investigate and respond to client inquiries; monitor client accounts for non-payment, delayed payments and irregularities; manage collection efforts.
Maintain client files; prepare bank deposits; process adjustments.
Complete billing, collection and reporting activities according to specific deadlines.

3. Other

Process month-end journal entries.
Maintain donor database.
Maintain accounting filing system.
Prepare reports as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required: Associates degree in Accounting. Minimum 2-3 years accounting work experience. Knowledge and experience performing the full accounting life-cycle of A/P and A/R. Proficient in MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel. Proficient in relevant accounting software. Strict attention to detail and accuracy. Good time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Good writing and communication skills.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; non-profit work experience.
