Accounting Manager – Jewish Community Center East Bay – Berkeley, CA

Note: The JCC East Bay is seeking a Temporary Accounting Manager who is available immediately. We are also recruiting for a full-time, permanent Accounting Manager.

Our programs include Jewish holiday celebrations and a myriad of literary, cultural, fitness events, lectures and concerts throughout the year. Our award-winning preschool and highly regarded afterschool programs are known for their exciting curricula and dynamic staff. The afterschool program serves over 500 children at two public schools in Oakland, and at our JCC sites in Oakland and Berkeley. Our day camp, Camp Tzofim, is a popular choice for East Bay kids and parents during the summer, and we have a large, active delegation to the
national JCC Maccabi Games every year.

Position Summary

The Temporary Accounting Manager works closely with the CFO to manage all aspects of the JCC’s financial functions. The JCC East Bay operates educational, social, and cultural programs that directly serve over 1000 people each week. With a $5 million annual budget and a high volume of financial
transactions, this position requires attention to detail as well as excellent customer service and communication skills. The Accounting Manager supports and works with our members, vendors, and community. The person who fills this temporary position may be considered to continue as the
permanent Accounting Manager.

Major Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in QuickBooks
• Work with Bookkeeper to prepare bi-weekly payroll for approximately 70
• Prepare and enter monthly journal entries in QuickBooks
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and all banking transactions
• Responsible for working with customers about problem billing and collection situations
• Prepare bank reconciliations
• Responsible for Annual Audit and 990 Tax Return, including working with Auditors and
preparation of audit schedules
• Process and track contributions and grants in collaboration with Development Director
• Coordinate with full-time Bookkeeper

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
• Nonprofit experience preferred
• Experience working in an educational setting ideal
• B.S. Degree, CPA preferred
• Experience and/or knowledge of all financial functions
• Excellent analytical skills
• Extensive experience with QuickBooks
• Experience with other software systems including Salesforce, Marks, Ultracamp ideal
• Demonstrated excellent customer service utilizing verbal and written communication
