Special Events and Development Coordinator, Part-time

The Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association (MVDSA), a nonprofit organization that provides information, support and resources to individuals with Down syndrome, their families and their communities, is now accepting resumes for a part-time Special Events and Development Coordinator. This position will be responsible for coordinating fundraising activities to promote life-enriching opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome. We seek a dynamic, self-starter and independent team member to organize special events and development in the Greater Dayton area.

Location – Dayton, OH

Timing – Immediate hire; position open until filled.

Duties –This part-time position (approx. 30 hours/week) reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for:

Planning, promoting, implementing and managing MVDSA’s annual major fundraising events, including both small- and large-scale fundraising events, such as dinner meetings, the annual Euchre Tournament, Golf Outing, and Buddy Walk, as well as annual and semi-annual appeals.
Taking the lead role for organizing the annual Buddy Walk, which attracts 2,500+ participants.
Executing development activities including gift processing, donor acknowledgements and database management, as well as engaging participants, donors and sponsors via regular communication.
Developing long-range and short-term event timelines, checklists and objectives and negotiating with vendors and venues for space, timing, layouts, food, supplies, A/V, signage, etc.
Recruiting, training, acknowledging and partnering with current and potential volunteers to meet goals.
Coordinating event publicity, advertising and collateral material design, production and distribution, developing local media and community relationships.
Cultivation and expansion of development relationships with previous, current and future donors and sponsors, including solicitation for event-specific in-kind donations.

Requirements –
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ special events and development-related experience.
Proficiency with: Microsoft Office Suite products (especially Publisher, Word and Outlook). Experience with DonorPerfect, ConstantContact, web and/or graphic design is strongly preferred.
Skills: (1) strong organization and event planning skills, (2) excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and (3) Professionalism, reliability, versatility and dependability.
Must have a flexible working schedule, with availability during normal business hours, as well as occasional additional night and weekend hours for scheduled and special events.
Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license for travel to off-site events and meetings.
Must be able to bend, lift, carry, transport, and setup a variety of event materials (weighing up to 35 lbs).
Must have or develop a working knowledge of Down syndrome.
A complete background check will be required prior to employment.

Pay – $14-18/hour
