Gifts and Grants Manager

The Gifts and Grants Manager is a fundraising professional responsible for staffing the annual fundraising campaigns within Grace Cathedral. This includes working with the Canon Director of Development, Dean of Grace Cathedral, board of trustees, committees and fundraising volunteers to plan and carry out campaign strategies and meet campaign goals and objectives.

Reports directly to the Canon Director of Development and works as a full member of a highly collaborative development team.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising Support:

Support the Canon Director of Development and core team members to define and implement the fundraising goals and overall strategies
Regularly track and update donor engagement activities and related information in fundraising database; prepare ongoing evaluations

Volunteer Support:

In conjunction with development committee, some trustees and volunteers, prepare and implement major gifts solicitation plans and strategies in accordance with the cathedral objectives, plan and timetable; recommend prospect/donor approach strategy including setting dollar and/or participation goals
Provide fundraising support to high-level volunteers
Work closely with volunteers to develop plans, set goals, monitor activities, identify problems, and prepare action plans to resolve problems; prepare regular progress reports and overall evaluations
Provide information, fundraising expertise, and advice on planning and coordination to development committee, board chair, dean and support staff to assist them in the management of their prospects.
Provide training/information to volunteers as required
Assist with fundraising volunteer recruitment, orientation and evaluation

Donor Cultivation:

Engage in direct cultivation of small portfolio (approx. 50) gift prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations.
Oversee many aspects of fundraising for The Community Preschool at Grace Cathedral, including overseeing grant writing and donor development planning.

Grant Support:

Oversee the grant proposal development and submission process; ensuring that proposals, reports and other documents are well written, strategic and submitted on schedule with appropriate follow-up
Identify partnering opportunities to leverage existing grants and develop related grant proposals

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors
Work in a collegial manner with development team, board and volunteers
Determine whether an individual is capable of making a major gift or special gift; decide the most effective and productive solicitation strategies
Perform other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years fundraising experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, with preference of at least five years of experience and record of successful fundraising
Experience working with volunteers at various levels throughout the community
Ability to develop effective partnerships with internal and external constituencies
Ability to independently apply a broad knowledge of fundraising practices and principles
Demonstrated track record of cultivation, solicitation and closing of gifts
Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
Strong analytical, organizational, motivational and time management skills
Ability to comprehend and communicate the mission of Grace Cathedral
Ability to coordinate and direct the work of others
Experience writing and editing proposals both independently and as part of a team
Commitment to teamwork and cooperative action
Ability to work with a large number people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds and as part of a team
Willingness to meet with prospective funders and donors, usually located in San Francisco and the Bay Area
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and to juggle multiple tasks
High level of attention to detail
Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions
