Director of Development – One To World – New York, NY

SUMMARY

One To World, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to creating global citizens and inspiring a peaceful world, is seeking a full-time Director of Development to lead and implement strategies to meet the organization’s annual fundraising goals. We are a financially healthy organization with a budget just over one million dollars and robust fundraising programs in place.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Development will lead strategies to meet the organization’s annual fundraising goals as well as to promote the organization’s key messages to funders and the public. The Director of Development will work closely with One To World’s executive staff, consultants, and Board of Directors, as well as supervise a full-time Development Coordinator and part-time interns to drive the overall development plan, which includes:

Annual Benefit Event (35%)

Work with the Development Consultant and Executive Director to execute One To World’s Fulbright Awards Dinner, which raises over $500,000 a year
Oversee all benefit event-related data
Oversee processing of all incoming gifts and preparation of acknowledgements
Oversee and execute benefit event mailings and follow-up

Individual Giving and Donor Cultivation (30%)

Work with the development team to create and prepare two individual appeals directed toward long-time and potential new donors
Work with development team to create donor stewardship materials (eblasts, postcards, program reports, etc.)
Oversee processing of all incoming gifts and preparation of acknowledgements
Oversee and execute donor cultivation events including the Fulbright Welcome Reception and Directors Circle (an event for former Board members)

Foundation/Corporate Grants (25%)

Lead foundation and corporate grant outreach, including grant research, cultivation, and stewardship
Work with the development team and program staff to write foundation proposals and prepare supporting materials
Assist the program staff in identifying and cultivating corporate sponsors

Other Duties (10%)

Oversee the management of the organization’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge). Ensure the integrity of the database via regular maintenance and data-cleaning. Design and perform queries, exports, and imports as needed for individual giving, foundation outreach, and annual benefit event.
Ensure that donor correspondence is tracked consistently (related to direct mail, major giving, foundation outreach, and benefit event)
Oversee the process for creating One To World’s Annual Report
Contribute to the content and analyze the development results of the organization’s website
Assume additional tasks as necessary and mutually agreed upon for the successful implementation of development strategies and general office well-being

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
At least five years of development experience or an equivalent combination of experience and
education
Confident self-starter, ability to work independently and as part of a team
High energy and enthusiasm for the position; willingness to go the extra mile and do what it takes to get the job done
Excellent organizational skills with avid attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (cross-cultural sensitivity a must)
Excellent writing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Word)
Experience with web development, html newsletters, graphic design, or desktop publishing a plus
Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge donor database a major plus
Strategic thinker
Creative; Sense of humor, “can-do” attitude
