One Million Degrees, a non-profit working with community college students, is currently seeking Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology tutors for our scholars at Kennedy-King College, Wilbur Wright College, Olive-Harvey College, and Malcolm X College.
About One Million Degrees:
One Million Degrees (OMD) empowers low-income, highly motivated community college students to succeed in school, in work, and in life. Our unique scholar development model combines mentoring, tutoring, academic advising, life- and professionalism-skills development, personal supports, and financial assistance to help OMD scholars graduate at a rate over 3 times that of traditional college students, in half the time.
Though about half of all college students in the nation are enrolled in community colleges, fewer than 35% will graduate within three years. With comprehensive academic, professional, personal and financial support, One Million Degrees scholars are persisting and excelling in college, earning their degrees, and entering the workforce in high-demand occupations or transferring to four-year universities. They are filling the middle skills job gap, strengthening the economy, and contributing to a robust and diverse talent pool.
Position Summary
Tutor responsibilities include:
• Providing instruction in an individualized capacity or in small groups
• Assessing scholars’ academic strengths and weaknesses and assisting scholars in improving deficits and overall academic achievement
• Assisting scholars with reviewing class material(s)/text(s)
• Submitting session reports for scheduled sessions
• Attend small trainings throughout the year
Tutors are independent contractors of One Million Degrees. All appointments are scheduled in coordination with OMD staff. All tutoring will take place on the college campus and appointments are considered weekly, recurring appointments. Hourly rate starts at $20 per hour and is commensurate with experience.
