Mobile Response Team (MRT) Advocate – Oakland – Family Violence Law Center

Job description
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, part-time on-call, 2-6 shifts per month.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Crisis Services Coordinator, the MRT Advocate provides emergency crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and their children. This includes on-site crisis counseling, safety planning, option assessment and referral to other agencies and service providers. The MRT Advocate works closely with law enforcement, emergency medical teams, medical sites, and community-based agencies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Answer agency crisis line off-site after business hours, overnight, on weekends, and holidays.
Respond in-person to advocacy calls from law enforcement, emergency medical teams, and other partner agencies.
Provide immediate crisis intervention and safety planning for families in domestic violence situations.
Provide resources and referrals to services within the community.
Provide advocate services including survivor safety relocation and shelter location assistance.
Provide advocacy within the criminal justice system by working closely with law enforcement.
Participate in mandatory bi-monthly team meetings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must have California Domestic Violence Counselor Certification (40-hr+ training in DV field)
Must live in Alameda County with the ability to respond to an on-site advocacy call within 15-20 minutes.
Valid California driver’s license and insured vehicle.
Course work in social work, psychology, or a related field OR at least two years related experience.
Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and with a team.

PREFERED QUALITIES:
Previous experience in crisis intervention.
Previous experience in answering a crisis line.
Previous experience working with police departments, and/or understanding of the criminal justice system.
Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese or Vietnamese

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes settings of the client’s home, educational institutions, community places, and office environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
