Position: Palo Alto Youth Program Coordinator

Salary Range: 30 hr. per week/$13.50 to $16.50 per hour DOE

YCS students build leadership and life skills, empathy for the needs of others, and a sense of connectedness, purpose and efficacy, while making a positive difference in the lives of those around them. Summary and Position Responsibilities:

The YCS Program Coordinator will work closely with the Palo Alto Youth Programs Director to facilitate YCS middle school service clubs, Students With A Gateway (SWAG) leadership program, Attendance Academy, and support for YCS events. The Coordinator must also build and maintain positive community relationships with many community partners.

Middle School Service Clubs – assume responsibility for weekly, service learning based YCS Clubs at the three middle schools. Each club meets weekly on a designated day during lunch. The Coordinator will be responsible for planning and implementing volunteer opportunities for the clubs. In addition, the Coordinator will build and maintain positive communication and relationships with the Teacher Sponsors and other key personnel on each campus. Other responsibilities include maintaining program records, including attendance, and recruiting club members.
Students With A Gateway (SWAG) Leadership Program – this position will be responsible for co-planning and co-facilitating each meeting with YCS’s City of Palo Alto partners. The Coordinator will be required to support the youth in planning service activities in the community and student recruitment/record keeping. The SWAG program meets weekly afterschool and builds students’ leadership and life skills through service learning.
Attendance Academy Facilitation: — Coordinator will work with Program Director to implement a service learning and life skills program for high school and middle school students with attendance and behavior issues. These programs will be held on some Saturday mornings.
YCS Event Support – work with other staff on YCS special events, including service days, though student volunteer recruitment/management and some logistical help. The Coordinator is also responsible for smaller-scale service event planning for the programs listed above.

Bachelor Degree preferred
Experience working around youth organizations or educational institutions
Passionate commitment to service learning and overcoming educational inequities
Experience working in diverse communities
Strong written and oral communication skills
Prior experience working in a professional office environment preferred
Flexible and positive
Exercise excellent judgment, diplomacy and sensitivity to all constituents
Ability to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously and manage the details related to each
Working knowledge of Macintosh, Microsoft Word, and Excel required. Knowledge of website and database software preferred.

Other Qualifications:

Valid CA drivers license and reliable transportation for fieldwork
Able to work occasional evenings and weekends for required events
Submit a copy of their DMV record and drivers license and automobile insurance
Clearance results from a TB test and Live Scan fingerprinting check.
Current certifications in First Aid and CPR or be willing obtain within 30 days of hire
