Maternal Health Internship – Mamatoto Village Inc – Washington, DC

Summary of Duties

Interns are responsible for providing support to Mamatoto Village staff, as well as working with community partners to collaborate on maternal wellness initiatives. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with monitoring client relations; maintaining client database; research; community and event organizing; and managing social media relations.

Responsibilities

Work a minimum of 20-25 hours per week. Option for some telecommuting hours.

Provide weekly work plans to supervisor, outlining intended and completed assigned tasks.
Provide monthly progress report to be presented at Mamatoto staff meetings
Work with Mamatoto Village Director of Community Engagement and Wellness Coordinator on outreach and wellness initiatives.
Work with Community Birthworker Training Coordinator to organize materials for Community Birthworker Training.
Attend, assist, and participate in the 14-week Community Birthworker Training (optional) at a discounted rate
Assist with grant writing and policy initiatives
Maintain client database for Mamatoto Village.
Complete a cumulative project for area of focus within Mamatoto Village.
Assist with preparation for childbirth classes, support groups, workshops, and presentations.

Qualifications

At least 21 years of age (required)

Bachelors or Masters Degree (current students are welcome to apply)
Experience or a strong desire to work in the field of Maternal and Child Health
Computer Literacy (particularly experience with Apple OS)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail
Creative and Outgoing
Experience with Social Media
Reliable Transportation

Training/Preparation

Attend training given by Mamatoto Village Staff
Criminal background check and child abuse clearance

Length of Commitment

6 months minimum (with the option for an extension)

Compensation

This is an unpaid position. There is opportunity for school credit if allowed by the college/university of applicant and possible monthly stipend (depending on grant funds). Position offers an excellent opportunity to work on substantive projects and can result in a great reference and experience.
