Health Policy Intern – AcademyHealth – Washington, DC

AcademyHealth, a leading national organization serving the fields of health services and policy research and the professionals who produce and use this important work, is currently seeking up to two part-time interns. The intern will support projects related to health information technology (HIT) and the use of electronic medical records for research to improve health care quality and outcomes. Interns may be asked to also provide administrative assistance on other projects. This is a great, introductory opportunity to develop meeting management and marketing skills, and learn more about cutting edge programs in health research and policy.

Responsibilities include:

Update and maintain contact lists for social marketing, meetings, and promotion.
Scheduling and support both large and small meetings with leaders in healthcare.
Assist with implementing a management and tagging structure for program websites.
Providing support for the EDM Forum’s open-access journal, eGEMs.
Additional research and support tasks, as appropriate to the interests and skills of candidates.

Desired Qualifications:

Undergraduate student with demonstrated interest in public health, health services research, or health policy.
Enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual who is able to work independently and in a collaborative work environment.
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
Great attention to detail.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Facility with social media tools (e.g. Twitter) and websites.
Proficiency in HTML/CSS and prior experience working with websites a plus.

This is a paid internship beginning in January 2014, with the possibility of extending into summer 2014. Beginning and ending dates are negotiable.

Flexible work days and hours, 15-20 hours per week is desired.
