The Digital Media Intern role at Girl Rising is tailor-made for someone who wants to be groundbreaking in digital strategy and social media. Someone who believes that a digitally connected world can do big things, who enjoys thinking creatively, and who loves keeping up and playing the ever-evolving field of digital marketing.
Girl Rising is a global action campaign for girls’ education. At its heart is Girl Rising – an innovative new feature film that spotlights the true stories of extraordinary girls around the world, striving beyond circumstance and overcoming impossible odds to reach their dreams. Together, Girl Rising promotes a powerful truth: educating girls in the developing world can transform families, communities, and entire countries – and break the cycle of poverty in just one generation.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Social media engagement & moderation – driving online conversation and follower growth by posting content, engaging with other users and influencers, and outreach to sympathetic individuals and organizations
Copy creation – researching and writing blog posts, copy, and e-mails to our mailing list
Analysis and Testing– Tracking engagement of your posts, tweets, blog, & Social Network profiles (i.e. page views, clicks, comments, fan base/follower #s, etc. – we’ll train you!) and creating new experiments to test
Multimedia content – photo editing (Instagram’s ok!) to video editing to slideshows
Various tech responsibilities (uploading photos, organizing community efforts, data entry, creative social media brainstorming, etc.)
Solid knowledge of all existing and emerging social media platforms, tools and techniques, including: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
Tech savvy – you like to be online, figure out new tools and methods of using the internet, and enjoy getting your hands dirty
Exceptional writing skills and experience in communicating and personifying a brand personality through social media
Ability to increase fans and cultivate followers by creating compelling digital campaigns and content that engage and promote interactions
Interest in documentary film, education, and/or international development
Detailed oriented, team player who sees this as a a lot of fun (because it is!)
Nice to have knowlege: Photoshop, WordPress, Hootsuite, Microsoft Office, Google Tools (Gmail, Docs, Maps)
Not Required: Previous experience as social media manager
Start Date: Immediately. Intern must be available 3 days a week.
