Youth Organizer – Rockaway Youth Task Force

Youth Organizer Responsibilities:
Leadership Development
Develop weekly political education trainings for youth organizers
Facilitation and coordination of weekly political education trainings
Support and coordinate youth organizers to facilitate political education and workshops
Integration of members into campaign and base-building work, and logistic coordination
Regular check-ins with membership base with a focus on social emotional learning

Base Building:
Conduct street outreach, school presentations, organizational outreach, phone calls and text to youth within the community
Work with RYTF youth participants to plan, develop, and execute RYTF base-building events, including outreach plans
Retention – Implementation of strategic membership development and retention plan to move members into areas of more active leadership within RYTF.
Coordinate events and outings for youth organizers to foster team-building
Update and maintain RYTF’s member platform

Campaigns:
Work with RYTF youth membership to identify issues/areas of interest
Create and implement campaign strategies that center youth leading the work

Other Responsibilities:
Coordinate activities and events for youth organizers such as college visits, retreats, celebrations, parties, special events, etc.
Participate in staff meetings and training
Share light chores to maintain the organization and neatness in the office
Qualifications & Skills of Ideal Candidate:
A successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the mission and vision of the Rockaway Youth Task Force and have experience working with youth through organizing; a commitment to social justice and youth leadership, and excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. The position will be based out of Far Rockaway, Queens. The ideal candidate must be ready to work with and engage young people in Rockaway communities and schools.

Other Information:
The work schedule includes evening and weekend meetings and events. Candidates requiring strictly a 9 to 5 schedule will not be a good fit for this position. This is a full time salaried position.

Benefits
Starting salary is between $40,000-$50,000 per year (increases commensurate with experience) plus health, dental, and vision benefits. Paid sick days and two weeks vacation time are included. A cell phone will be provided for this position.
