The Farm Manager supports all production and maintenance needs of our one acre Urban Farm. The Farm Manager will perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to seeding, watering, planting, harvesting, coordinating produce, weeding, composting, mowing, mulching, and pruning. They will also be responsible for greenhouse maintenance as well as chicken care. The Farm Manager will also support distribution through our farm stands, working with garden members and volunteers. They will regularly work alongside high school-aged youth employees/volunteers as well as adults.
Daily maintenance requirements of the farm such as seeding, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, and management of garden beds.
Coordinating of farm stands
Engage with farm stand visitors, garden members, and volunteers
Serve as a positive role model to youth employees, community members, and adult volunteers
Engaging in site visits from funders, elected officials, peer programs, and others;
Coordinating special events on the farm such as fundraisers and community events;
Engage in staff meetings and program planning as necessary.
Excited to learn urban farming best practices and techniques;
4 – year degree (not required)
Ready to work outside, in all types of weather;
Open to direction, constructive criticism, and works well in a team;
Willing to take initiative and lead farm tasks with groups of farm employees and volunteers
Commitment to food justice
Welcoming and positive attitude
Ability to work collaboratively with those from various racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds;
Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
Expertise in urban farming
Experience in the operation of farm stands or markets
Knowledge of chicken care
Comfortable using Microsoft suite and Google Drive
Familiar with the Rockaway community
Carpentry and other building skills
Other Information: The work schedule includes evening and weekend meetings and events. Candidates requiring strictly a 9 to 5 schedule will not be a good fit for this position. This is a full-time salaried position.
Starting salary is $40,000 per year (increases commensurate with experience) plus health, dental, and vision benefits. Paid sick days and two weeks vacation time are included. A cell phone will be provided for this position.
