Program Director of Elementary Afterschool – Bronx – East Side House Settlement

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
East Side House’s community-based programs use the community center as an environment conducive to social, educational, cultural and emotional growth as an individual goes through the developmental stages from childhood to adolescence. Offered in partnering community centers after school, the program provides structured activities and events geared toward character development and educational achievement, including homework assistance; tutorial services in math, reading, computer literacy and science; organized games; arts and crafts; trips; team sports; seasonal holiday parties; and drug, crime and violence prevention activities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Functions Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Develop and implement recruitment strategies for program participants.
2. Oversee the registration process of all programs participants.
3. Oversee the coordination and organization of cultural events, fundraising, special activities, local and out-of-town trips for program participants.
4. Develop schedule of program activities.
5. Monitor facility condition and report to Department Director.
6. Oversee completion and submission of incident reports on a timely fashion.
7. Assist in the creation and implementation of programming for program participants.
8. Supervise/Evaluate part-time staff and coordinate weekly staff meetings.
9. Meet with Department Director to receive and provide updates of programming and administrative task
10. Provide needed information to Director for quarterly and end-of-program qualitative and quantitative reports.
11. Oversee and implement data collection systems for program evaluation and funding source compliance purposes.
12. Inventory, control and order program supplies. 13. Detect and communicate difficulties, problems, or concerns that can affect the productivity and effectiveness of after school programs.
14. Maintain and update center’s bulletin boards.
15. Maintain flexible hours and work days.
16. Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development.
17. Attend internal and external in-service trainings & administrative meetings.
18. Open and close Center, including being on call for facility emergencies during weekend and night hours.
19. Develop close working relationship with NYCHA
20. Is the primary contact person for Community Center with regards to the community, NYCHA etc.
21. Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience/Skills
1. Bachelors’ degree required.
2. Two years of managerial experience and/or demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets documents and information. Ability to gather data and to put it into statistical format. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from participants, parents, community, and agencies.
3. Strong presentation skills and the ability to represent the organization in dialogues with other agencies and community meetings.
4. Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of community service/development.
6. Must possess a genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities and field practice. Common sense, compassion, good judgment and a sense of humor. Must be self-motivated and see oneself as a role model for staff and children.
7. Must be able to do detailed work in fast-paced, active setting and possess flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances

Supervisory Responsibility This position supervises assigned personnel, including front line staff and/or support staff.
Work Environment Corporate casual. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs. Must be able maintain a flexible schedule.
Travel Minimal travel is expected for this position.
