Determiend To Succeed provides highly motivated students from low-income families with the support they need to succeed in college. Our comprehensive, year-round academic and enrichment program begins in middle school and continues thorugh college graduation

Program Director- full-time

Position Overview:

The Program Director will report to and work closely with the Executive Director to plan and ensure the delivery of Determined To Succeed’s overall program and its elements to students in accordance with the mission and the goals of Determined To Succeed. This position is responsible for continuing to develop, refine and manage the existing academic and enrichment elements of the program and to provide every resource and support possible to students, so that they will maximize their academic achievement in middle and high school. Maximizing student achievement will result in Determined To Succeeds ultimate mission and goal to afford highly motivated, low-income students every opportunity to go to college and graduate. A successful candidate will be collaborative and confident and believe passionately in the power of education.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development, Planning, Implementation and Performance

Develop and refine existing writing, math and STEM enrichment curriculum, refine existing tools to assess effectiveness of curriculum and report results on an ongoing basis to Executive Director and staff
Work with Executive Director and staff to create and develop new programming to implement during academic year and summer
Seek new, innovative programming partners to enhance and expand academic and enrichment resources and support
Continuously assess quality of program performance with regard to meeting student achievement expectations and report (weekly) on the performance of program and students to Co-Founder, Executive Director and staff to ensure that maximum student achievement is being met
Develop and refine existing forms and records to document program activities
Work with Executive Director to develop summer enrichment curriculum comprised of creating programming internally and partnering with existing programs and organizations

Students – Recruitment and Management

Work with Executive Director, partner school administration and Student Site Coordinators to recruit, interview and select student candidates and their parents.

Manage the collection and maintenance of student records for statistical and evaluation purposes via Sales Force data system according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization. Responsible for organization and maintenance of student files (electronic and hard copies)
Work directly with students to build strong, supportive relationships with them and their families
Assess student data continuously and focus relentlessly on delivering outcomes despite obstacles outside of Determined To Succeeds control to ensure that students are on track to matriculate and graduate to and from 4-year colleges

Program Staff – Recruitment and Management

Work with Executive Director to recruit, interview and select qualified candidates for Student Site Coordinators, Enrichment Instructors and tutors

Supervise and oversee Student Site Coordinators to ensure that they understand and follow the procedures and practices of the organization pertaining to their responsibilities and duties. Undertake weekly after-school session site visits, provide ongoing direction and feedback, and review student reflection documents to ensure academic progress
Ensure that personnel files are properly maintained and kept confidential
Work with Executive Director to assess Student Site Coordinators performance and effectiveness on an ongoing basis and on their annual performance review
Recruit adult and student volunteers for appropriate program activities including after-school sessions
Ensure that all staff members and volunteers receive orientation and appropriate training in accordance with Determined To Succeed’ policies and practices
Participate in weekly staff meetings with Executive Director, Co-Founders and staff to report on all matters relating to program and students to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
Coordinate with program staff the delivery of services among different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency

Qualifications

Most importantly, the Program Director must embrace the Determined To Succeed’s mission and goals. Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

Minimum 4-year college degree including teaching credential; master’s degree preferred
Minimum 2-5 years of middle school or high school teaching
History of working effectively to close the achievement gap in low-income schools and communities and/or a demonstrated record of significant gains in student achievement with students in low-income schools and communities
Experience supervising and developing staff and volunteers
Familiarity with educational resources, including sources of high-quality curricula and tools for student learning
At home in a collaborative, team-oriented work environment with a high level of transparency and frequent communication
Bilingual a plus

Work Environment:

This job will be primarily located at Determined To Succeed office in Santa Monica and partner schools around Los Angeles and requires local travel.
