Director of Development – International Documentary Association – Los Angeles, CA

The International Documentary Association (IDA) is dedicated to building and serving the needs of a thriving documentary culture. Through its programs, the IDA provides resources, creates community, and defends the rights and freedoms of documentary artists, activists and journalists.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

IDA is seeking a skilled and hands-on Director of Development to lead the organization’s development and outreach strategies in support of IDA’s strategic vision and growth. Reporting to the Executive Director as a key member of the leadership team, he/she will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and staff to achieve philanthropic goals and build a case for support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Developing, leading, and implementing IDA’s annual and long-term development strategies with individuals, corporate, government and foundation funders.
Providing fundraising leadership and support to the Executive Director and Board members, including helping to identify their resource cultivation goals and support needs, prospecting donors, and leading or participating in asks, as appropriate.
Recruiting, developing, coaching, inspiring, and motivating a strong development team.
Providing general oversight to all of IDA’s development and outreach communications activities including: ensuring consistent messaging and outreach strategies across all platforms; managing day-to-day operations and evaluating the adequacy of activities through the use of goals and metrics; assessing the team to ensure that the department/function is effectively structured and staffed; overseeing performance measures and monitoring results in coordination with the Executive Director, staff and appropriate committees.
Maintaining a working knowledge of best practices, significant developments and trends in philanthropy relevant to IDA, nationally and to the Los Angeles region, and adapting fundraising strategies as necessary.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible development experience, including staff management experience. He/She will have a proven record of success in raising major gifts and executing individuals, corporations, and foundation giving campaigns. He/She must have a broad-based knowledge of all functions of development, including the use of databases (preferably Salesforce) and social media, membership and volunteer-driven organizations, and of major giving techniques. He/She will have experience planning and executing department budgets and evaluating the ROI of specific fundraising programs. Exceptional written, communication, financial, organizational and administrative skills are essential and expected.

EDUCATION: An undergraduate degree is required.

COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
