Development Director – GALvanize USA – Seattle, WA

Job Responsibilities
The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and will ideally be based in Seattle, WA. For the right candidate, a remote position will be considered. The Development Director is responsible for the following:
Manage the current pipeline and proactively identify and research new funding leads and opportunities among foundations and major gift prospects
With Executive Director, develop and track individualized cultivation plan for new prospects
Develop proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, budgets, and fundraising collateral
Ensure key grant and reporting deadlines are met and funders are regularly updated on activities and achievements
Establish and provide oversight for internal systems to streamline development processes and relationship management
Assist with direct mail and online fundraising appeals
Assist with preparation for donor and funder visits including support with donor collateral, and research and prep for meetings
Work with Executive Director to manage expense budgets for all fundraising activities
Provide direction and oversight to staff involved in the day-to-day activities of the organization’s fundraising strategy, including the maintenance and expansion of the supporter database
Serve as a public representative of the organization, including cultivating relationships with prospective supporters in order to build awareness of and commitment to GALvanize USA

Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who are highly relational, detail oriented, great team players, and who show up with intention and follow through on projects. You should have:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and training
Minimum five years of experience in donor cultivation, grant writing, and contracts management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts from individuals and foundations
A track record of developing and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
Excellent writing and editing skills
A demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes, and a results-oriented culture
High emotional intelligence and strong commitment to the organization’s mission of advancing a progressive agenda that works for all of us
Occasional evening and weekend availability for events required. Some travel required.
Experience with Salesforce and prior experience in a start-up environment are both plusses but are not requirements. Understanding that this is a small team in need of folks who are willing to dig in and help with all aspects of the job to advance mission is critical.
