POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages all aspects of employment of actors and creative team for each production at the Mark Taper Forum (MTF) and Kirk Douglas Theatre (KDT) including contracting, travel/housing and payroll, and ensuring each company is well attended to and supported.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage all aspects of support for all out of town actors and creative team for productions at the Mark Taper Forum and Kirk Douglas Theatre. Act as their primary theatre contact. Exercise managerial judgment when anticipating and responding to the needs of these artists particularly when covering evening and weekend performances and for medical emergencies.

2. Provide on-site show coverage (at half-hour) no less than 2 performances a week for each theatre (MTF and KDT).

3. Serve as the main point of contact for production personnel including but not limited to tour managers, music contractors, studio teachers, production assistants and assistant directors.

4. Negotiate and contract production support personnel including stage managers, production assistants and assistant directors.

5. Serve as liaison between company members and internal payroll department for all aspects of payroll processing.

6. Maintain effective communication with stage managers during pre-production, rehearsal and run of the show. Obtain local services as needed for company (physical therapy, medical specialists, etc).

7. Manage full life-cycle of all Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) contracts including mailing originals, obtaining signatures and filing copies with AEA.

8. Manage weekly payroll for performers and company members. Make producer licensing fee and author royalty payments when requested.

9. Be familiar with New York rehearsal studios, housing locations and general New York information.

10. Arrange travel, housing, ground transportation, per diem, etc for all visiting artists including those in co-productions and presented productions at MTF and KDT.

11. Track and process artist expenditures and reimbursements for each MTF and KDT production.

12. Responsible for miscellaneous purchases on behalf of productions and cash payments to artists (per diem, reimbursements, etc).

13. In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, manage Worker’s Compensation process for all injured actors and other company members.

14. Manage company house seats and all complimentary tickets at MTF and KDT.

15. Oversee process of working with studio teachers and guardians for MTF and KDT productions that employ minors. Be familiar with California child labor laws.

16. Report theatre season statistics to AEA, SDC and LORT as needed.

17. Work each first day rehearsal, first technical rehearsal, first preview performances and opening and closing nights of all productions at the MTF and KDT.

18. Manage both the strategic and hands on day to day company management functions.

19. Negotiate and establish rates of housing/hotel options for visiting artists in the downtown LA area. Cultivate and maintain relations with vendors (hotels, restaurants, car rental, etc.)

20.Other duties as may be assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create, update and distribute out of town company “welcome packets.” Attend KDT Operations meetings and CTG staff meetings.

2. Perform office-related tasks for General Manager as needed (phones, faxing, filing, travel, etc.).

3. Work closely with Assoc Artistic Directors during pre-production and production process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and essential skills

1. Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Windows XP proficient

2. Able to multi-task and work independently

3. Basic knowledge of AEA, SDC, USA & IATSE unions. Overall working knowledge of theatre operations including but not limited to the production process, box office and house management.

4. Must be extremely organized, detail oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills

5. Able to work with many different personalities and groups, a “people person”

6. Genuinely inspiring leader energized to motivate and empower the Management team to provide an unsurpassed experience to out of town artists and stage managers

7. Enrich lives of visiting artists and stage managers by being a coach, leader, colleague and ally.

8. Strong written and verbal skills

9. Act as a role model for all employees of the theatre by demonstrating behavior and work ethic expected of all CTG employees; ensuring standards by implementing all human resource policies and procedures.

10. Knowledge and interest in theatre

Minimum requirements: Essential functions and abilities

1. 3+ years of previous Company management experience, preferably working in live theatre setting

2. Proven ability to manage and foster a team environment

3. Ability to make independent decisions in a fast paced environment

4. Demonstrate pride of ownership in the operation of the Theatre by making fiscally responsible decisions.

5. Prior track record of managing both the strategic and hands on day to day company management functions.

6. Computer literate

7. Able to operate a vehicle.

Education, Experience and Licensing

1. BA in theatre or equivalent

2. Previous theatrical managerial experience strongly preferred

3. Valid driver’s license
