ABOUT THE POSITION
The Chief of Staff is responsible for ensuring strong execution and management of strategic initiatives that aim to further Meridian’s mission and impact. The Chief of Staff directly reports to and works most closely with the Head of School, efficiently managing the school’s projects by facilitating effective coordination and communication among the school’s stakeholders, helping to coordinate the work of the leadership team and the team’s interactions with Meridian’s Board of Trustees.
The Chief of Staff serves as the project manager for critical initiatives that aim to further Meridian’s mission and impact. The Chief of Staff will help to design and host key leadership and staff meetings/retreats; facilitate critical decision-making processes; manage relationships with external stakeholders; and ensure effective internal communication so that the key activities are well-coordinated.

Specific responsibilities include:
Leadership Team + Board of Trustees Support
Maximize the Head of School’s effectiveness by leveraging his/her time in a way that ensures maximum focus on highest priority issues and initiatives
Support the Head of School in ensuring the success of the Meridian leadership team: coordinate recurring and stand-alone meetings to ensure time spent together is highly effective–the right topics are raised; materials are prepared; pre-work is distributed and completed; facilitation supports healthy debate on the most important questions; and there is clear ownership and follow through
Work with the Head of school and TenSquare to ensure that the Meridian Board of Trustees is informed and appropriately engaged: help develop agendas and materials for Board and committee meetings; ensure that the Board is in compliance with PCSB and DC laws and regulations (eg. around transparency legislation); manage the timely and accurate completion of Board minutes and ensure that the minutes are shared on the Meridian website; and update the Board Roster and other materials as appropriate. Help to identify opportunities to engage the Board on strategic issues and follow-up with members as appropriate

Strategic Planning + Project Management
Support the Head of School in executing strategic initiatives that require collaboration of multiple leaders and stakeholder groups; oversee and lead projects as appropriate
Support the the Head of School in driving the creation and execution of short and long term organizational objectives that fuel Meridian’s continued progress
Ensure alignment across the organization during these planning processes
Determine appropriate project timelines, communication and training structures that make progress more likely and successful across the organization; clearly define and communicate the outcomes and timelines of the organization’s planning processes
Represent the Head of School’s vision and agenda internally and externally when appropriate

Communications + Grants Management
In collaboration with the Head of School and leadership team, design and draft communications to multiple stakeholder groups, e.g. Meridian’s Annual Report
Manage the full-cycle of Meridian’s federal, state, and local grants including: ESSA (Title I, II, III, and IV), IDEA, MKV and others as assigned. Primary responsibilities include:
Writing proposals and grant reports
Overseeing grant implementation to ensure that all stated objectives and goals are met
Working with Meridian’s Finance Team and Ed-Ops to oversee all EGMS updates
Planning site visits and managing relationships with OSSE and other funders
Work with the Meridian finance team and the school’s external partner, EdOps, to ensure fiscal reimbursements are completed and submitted on time
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university is required. Advanced degree in business, public policy or administration, or related discipline preferred.
Minimum 7 years of work experience; ideally3 or more years of leadership experience managing diverse teams
Experience supporting a CEO, Head of School, or senior leader in time management and goal setting strongly preferred
A passion for Meridian’s mission and our students and families
Demonstrated track record of setting ambitious goals and driving results; experience using data to drive the decisions, know-how to change course as needed, and troubleshoot effectively to move projects forward and to completion
Excellent organization and project management skills; ability to implement programs, manage details, and work independently
Mulitasker with the ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities accordingly
Excellent relationship builder with demonstrated experience managing diverse stakeholders, leading change, and promoting strong collaboration across teams
Direct experience working with boards members, chairs, and committees strongly preferred
Strong judgment and decision-making skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (G-suite, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
Fluency in Spanish a plus
