Advocacy / Congressional Outreach Intern – Syria Relief & Development – Washington, DC

yria Relief and Development (SRD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit humanitarian organization working to alleviate the suffering of Syrians in need, is currently looking for a part-time Advocacy and Congressional Outreach Intern. The ideal candidate for this internship will be extremely organized, detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills.

Commitment: 3 months / 20-25 hours per week Location: Washington, DC

Internship Duties

Assist with implementation of SRD’s advocacy and outreach work and representing SRD at local events, meetings and conferences; report outcomes and follow-up tasks as needed
Assist in creating new, and nurturing ongoing, beneficial partnerships with humanitarian-focused companies and organizations
Provide advocacy and outreach updates to Marketing Manager for sharing through SRD marketing channels
Schedule meetings for Advocacy Coordinator with Capitol Hill offices, State Department, and other federal agencies
Identify Syrian advocacy campaigns that SRD can support and join
Maintain an organized Congressional road-map with updated and current information on the stances taken on Syria
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in progress, or completed, in a related field (political science, international affairs, or other)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Organized
Comfortable with communication and outreach with a broad and diverse audience
Basic graphic design skills a plus (Photoshop, Illustrator)
Basic multimedia skills
Excellent computer aptitude (Microsoft Office, Google Docs)
Social media savvy
Positive attitude
Hard working
Comfortable working as part of a team and independently
Excellent communication skills (many emails and phone calls involved)
