Site Coordinator for Afterschool Program – KID POWER Inc – Washington, DC

Kid Power is seeking a dedicated and passionate Site Coordinator to lead the afterschool program at one of our middle-school sites, Jefferson Academy.

Position Description: The Site Coordinator is responsible for program implementation, classroom management, teacher and parent communication, plus occasional development and capacity building of the organization.

Schedule:

20 hours per week

2PM-6PM Monday – Thursday at the school, plus Friday meetings at 12:30 PM at the Kid Power office.

Position is from now until June with the possibility of being extended.

Responsibilities:

Program Implementation:

Orchestrate a highly structured, effective classroom setting to maximize student learning and satisfaction.
Help manage and teach enrichment classes (art, drama, dance, gardening, service-learning, advocacy, cooking, etc.)
Facilitate learning by guiding youth to think critically.
Maintain a daily schedule and classroom rules and procedures.
Implement a behavioral management system and incentive program.
Provide positive reinforcement and help promote youth self-esteem.
Coordinate and manages occasional field trips.

Administrative:

Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and other community partners.
Complete weekly program reports.
Participate in weekly staff meetings.
Maintain daily student attendance records and make phone calls home to parents of absent youth.
Occasional participation in special events and organizational capacity building.

Qualifications:

Passion for youth development.
Knowledge of classroom structure and systems.
Patience and a good sense of humor.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work well in a team setting.
Ability to adapt quickly in adverse situations.
Ability to manage a classroom.
Gardening skills/passion for nutrition and health is a PLUS.
