Senior Education Data Analyst – Community Center for Education Results – Seattle, WA

The Road Map Project, a regional collective impact initiative aimed at getting dramatic improvement in student achievement—cradle through college and career — in South Seattle and South King County, seeks a Senior Education Data Analyst with strong analytic skills and a desire to support community-driven change. The Community Center for Education Results (CCER) supports the Road Map Project and is a small team implementing a complex work plan in collaboration with a large group of community partners and stakeholders.

The CCER Senior Education Data Analyst provides education data expertise and analytic skills to support the Road Map Project through annual reporting, ad hoc research projects and some capacity building work with partners. The Road Map Project data sources include early learning enrollment, K-12 enrollment and assessment data, and post-secondary enrollment, completion, and transcript data. Analysis also uses data from the U.S. Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics, and has included mapping analysis combining multiple data sources.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Analyze and interpret data from established data sources to support Road Map Project work and to drive interventions that improve education outcomes.
Provide statistical expertise on key education-related topics, including opportunity gap analysis, target-setting, surveys and alignment in assessment analysis.
Provide education data analysis to support Road Map Project work groups and to inform the Road Map Project data agenda and work plan.
Collect, clean, analyze and interpret new data to answer emerging analytic questions.
Communicate the results of analysis through written reports, formal presentations and small meetings with internal and external customers.
Confirm project/analysis requirements by working with CCER staff to learn and document user requirements.
Use and help maintain data dictionaries and other data system documentation.
Help develop automated reporting system designs and help build automated reports.
Help design data storage and management methods to improve data quality and data system efficiency, including process improvements for analytic work.
Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, establishing personal networks and participating in technical societies.

Desired Qualifications:

Substantive experience in education analysis or research.
Strong demonstrated quantitative analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong, demonstrated proficiency with querying and manipulating data in relational database systems using SQL or strong, demonstrated proficiency using Tableau to connect to database systems and generate complex visualizations.
Knowledge of statistics and demonstrated experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, STATA, etc.), including the ability to produce descriptive statistics, compare means, test correlations, and conduct scale and regression analyses.
Strong data communication, report writing and presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner for various audiences including sharing analytic methodology and data system issues with program staff and presenting analytic insights to public, school-based and community-based audiences.
Ability to work as part of a team, including reviewing code written by other team members, clearly communicating methods and knowledge, and demonstrating flexibility in picking up and sharing workload on a changing portfolio of projects.
Understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by communities around ethnicity, race, class and gender, as well as a commitment to improving outcomes for low-income youth and families.
Knowledge of basic database design and build principles is beneficial, including understanding of various database designs (normalization, star-schema/snowflake, etc.), data models, database design development, extract-transform-load (ETL) processes, data mining and segmentation techniques.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; advanced study preferred.
