Oregon Community College Student Association Field Organizer – Oregon Student Association – Portland, OR

The Community College Field Organizer reports to the Oregon Student Association Organizing Director. The organizer is responsible for support and development of the Oregon Community College Student Association (OCCSA) Board and the implementation of OCCSA statewide campaigns.

Position requires frequent travel to member campuses across the state and will spend approximately 50% of their time in the field and 50% of their time in the Oregon Student Association’s Portland Office. A majority of the total organizing time by the community college field organizer will be spent working with the OCCSA Board to engage and mobilize community college students. At this time, it is a full-time position.

Principal Duties:

Develop and distribute OCCSA Board meeting materials and provide staff to the OCCSA Board for scheduled meetings.
Provide staff support to board members in preparation and during OCCSA Board meetings.
Develop grassroots field plans and campaign strategies and strategies for implementation by the OCCSA membership.
Recruit, motivate, and train students to run OCCSA campaigns and lobby legislators around OCCSA issues.
Provide training and skills development for OCCSA board members, student governments, student groups and all students interested in OCCSA campaigns or other student leadership development opportunities.
Maintain and develop working relationships with OCCSA board members, student government, student government organizations, student government advisors, and student organizations as well as other campus organizations, administrators, faculty, and staff.
Conduct presentations on OR community college campuses and to the OCCSA Board about OCCSA and relevant OSA coalition events, activities and campaigns.
Facilitate presentations on OR community college campuses about current issues affecting students in the public policy arena, relevant OSA coalition events, activities, and campaigns.
Coordinate recruitment for OCCSA events, the Northwest Student Leadership Conference (NWSLC) and the Oregon Students of Color Conference (OSCConference)
Coordinate with Oregon Community College Association (OCCA) and OSA staff for student lobby days, legislative visits, and actions around OCCSA issues.
Other projects relevant to OCCSA mission and goals as directed by the OCCSA board and the OSA Organizing Director or Executive Director.

Minimum qualifications:

Understanding grassroots organizing and electoral organizing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated, out-going and detail-oriented.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends and to travel.
Experience working with student groups and or student government preferred.
