Museum Educator – Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum – Poughkeepsie, NY


Coordinates and delivers education programs, including field trips, daily drop-in programs, off-site outreach programs and summer camp. Assists with the field trip scheduling, group booking, program registration and special events. Works collaboratively with others on staff to develop the museum’s educational content and interactive floor programs.


Museum Programming: Prepares and delivers hands-on activities, programs and workshops for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and elementary aged children and their parents/caregivers.

Field Trip Programming: Delivers group programs for school field trip audiences (focus on pre-K to grade 2). Coordinates scheduling and bookings with schools.

Summer Camp. Co-coordinates the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum Summer Camp program by overseeing summer camp staff (as needed); preparing for and delivering daily activities; collaborating with community partners and presenters; and evaluating the overall program. Oversees camp registration and enrollment.

Outreach Programming: Schedules and delivers offsite programs to local elementary schools (focus K-2), libraries and community centers.

Cross-department collaboration. Works collaboratively with exhibits and guest services staff to develop the museum’s educational content and to create new interactive floor programs. Provides back-up floor staffing. Assists with the coordination and implementation of museum-wide events.



Passionate about the mission of the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum and about working with young children and families
Bachelors degree
2+ years experience delivering hands-on programming for young children in museum, camp or similar informal education setting
2+ years project coordination experience
High degree of comfort presenting to both children and/or adults; excellent speaking, writing and presentation skills
Computer expertise (Microsoft office, internet, email, databases)
Strong organizer (of self/others, work space, calendar)
Strong interpersonal skills (communicative, collaborative, sensitive to others)
Strong classroom/group management skills
Enthusiastic and energetic
Team-player; collaborative and cooperative
Self-directed, proactive and comfortable working independently, yet able to take direction from others; able to take feedback and make adjustments as necessary
Creative thinker, flexible, resourceful and willing to learn new things
Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and excellent driving record

Strongly Preferred:

Advanced degree in early childhood or K-5 education
Museum educator experience at a children’s museum
Experience developing and delivering programs for parent audiences
Experience working with children with special needs
Experience partnering with elementary school for delivery of outreach programs
Summer camp management/coordination
Formal teaching experience in either preschool or early education level
