Assistant Teacher / Daycare – Center Against Domestic Violence

DESCRIPTION
Center Against Domestic Violence (shelter environment) is looking for a Daycare Assistant Teacher to provide a nurturing educational environment for preschool children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence, for the following shifts:

Mon/Tues/Wedn/Thur/Friday: 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Mon/Tues/Wedn/Thur/Friday: 12:00noon to 8:00pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure safety of children.
Assist in developing lesson plans and age appropriate activities. Assist in preparing all reports, maintain attendance and other records.
Provide classroom and outdoor activities in accordance with lesson plans.
Plan and implement programming to meet needs of individual children.
Maintain material and equipment in good condition. Report hazardous conditions to the Supervisor.
Complete incident reports and follow-up where appropriate.
Attend workshops, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
Minimum one year of classroom and/or day care experience.

SKILLS/CAPABILITIES REQUIRED:
Basic knowledge of child development.
Sensitivity to domestic violence issues and to diverse cultural needs.
Must obtain Basic First Aid and child/adult CPR after hire.
