Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the Project Director, develops, conducts and manages quarterly computer classes for veteran participants of the Veterans Upward Bound Program (the “Program”).

Schedule Overview:

Monday-Wednesday 9:00 am-12:00 pm and
Wednesday-Thursday 5:30 pm-8:30 pm

Essential Functions:

Develops, updates revises and prepares class syllabus, lesson plans, presentations, handouts and other materials to effectively instruct participants in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, internet research strategies, and other applications as necessary
Assesses participants’ computer literacy levels and recommends placement level for Program classes
Provides instruction for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels
Ensures participants acquire the basic computer and Microsoft knowledge required to be effective as a college student
Tracks and manages participant attendance
Documents participant progress and prepares a mid-term and final report on each participant’s progress and competency
Nominates a candidate for Student of the Quarter

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Associates degree in computer science or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience working with adult-re-entry college population. Must possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work in cooperative management setting. Must be experienced working with students individually, in groups and in a class setting. Must have good organizational skills; effective verbal and written communication skills. Must display professional demeanor and positive attitude. Preference for candidates with experience working with veterans or within a university/college Veteran Resource Centers, EOP, TRiO Program or other student support service programs.

Must demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to the needs of first-generation and low‑income veterans; understanding of non-traditional students; and ability to establish rapport with target population.

Requirements:

Must receive a favorable clearance report from background check and drug test
Valid First Aid and CPR certification required

Physical Job Description:

Manual Dexterity: Work requires regular speed and accuracy for most of the working day. Physical Effort: Infrequent physical demands, such as lifting 25 pounds or less of boxes containing educational material/supplies and normal bending or reaching to access and maintain files. Working Conditions: Normal office conditions. Hazards: Little or no exposure to hazards. Equipment Use: PC, keyboard, copier, facsimile.
