COMMUNICATIONS FELLOW (REMOTE) – MedGlobal

JOB SUMMARY
As a small but rapidly growing global health and humanitarian organization, we are looking for a Communications Fellow who is passionate about storytelling and skilled at communicating across various online platforms. This position will play a leading role in communicating MedGlobal’s humanitarian and health impact to a wide variety of audiences via our website, social media, email listserv, and more. The ideal candidate will possess a hybrid experience of communications, social media management, and writing creative content, and a passion for supporting humanitarian work in crisis-affected countries.
The Communications Fellowship is a full-time 6 month fellowship with a sizable stipend, with the intention of turning into full-time employment upon completion. We are looking for someone who is eager to develop a “voice” for MedGlobal across all platforms. The Communications Fellow will play a critical role in our small but growing NGO, and have the opportunity to further build and develop their skills to continue to grow with the organization. This is a remote position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
Take the lead in managing MedGlobal’s social media, including platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and assessing social media engagement
Increase MedGlobal’s online presence through drafting and curating creative, high-quality, and high-impact content tailored for various platforms and audiences
Design, edit, and produce communications and marketing materials including videos, infographics, briefings, and brochures
Assist in the drafting and production of a variety of written materials, including blog posts, briefings, updates, and our Annual Report
Create and format regular email newsletters and updates using MailChimp
Assist in media relations, including building our media list, communicating with journalists, and helping to secure media opportunities
Manage the organization’s communications assets, including photo library, success stories, logo library, infographics, design files, print, and digital files
Support online fundraising campaigns on a regular basis, with a particular focus on special occasions and year-end campaigns
Preparing for webinars and taking the lead on webinar follow up
Outreach

Work closely with field teams in Bangladesh, Yemen, Greece, Colombia, Sudan and beyond to collect content and updates
Communicate with humanitarian partners (local and international) to collect content and updates
Support the organization of events and webinars for stakeholders, partners, donors and the general public
Provide administrative and outreach support for special events including data management, mailings, marketing, and other communication initiatives
Provide input into communications best practices for field teams.
Website and Online Support
Assist with our donor management system database by sending timely acknowledgment and recognition of donors as appropriate
Manage all MedGlobal Search Engine Optimization activities and Google analytics, such as content strategy, link building and keyword strategy to increase rankings on all major search networks
Support content development and give creative input into the website, including through writing and editing content, designing webpage layouts when needed, keeping content up-to-date, and creating backup files

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent desired in communications, international relations, public health, or related fields.
At least 1-2 years of experience working or interning in communications at a nonprofits or related organization desired, including drafting content for websites, blogs, reports, social media, or other communication channels.
Experience in Adobe, WordPress, Canva, Google analytics and ads, Slack, and/ or MailChimp desired.
Experience in basic video editing desired.
An understanding of humanitarian issues and passion for global health.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and compelling style.
Ability to work independently and under pressure juggling multiple tasks.
Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail essential.
Self-motivated, accountable to goals and willing to learn new techniques, ideas, and skills.
Proficiency in Arabic or Spanish is a plus.
