Government Contracts Assistant – Children of Promise NYC – Brooklyn, NY

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is a community based, non-profit organization, in Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed Stuy) Brooklyn, whose mission is to embrace the children of incarcerated parents and empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system. CPNYC offers an innovative afterschool program and summer day camp, the only one of its kind in New York City, specifically designed to meet the needs, interests and concerns of children left behind by parents serving time in prison.

CPNYC’s model addresses the needs of the whole child, providing a holistic multiservice approach which is tailored to each child’s individual strengths and challenges and offered in a uniquely empowering environment. CPNYC collocates a licensed mental health clinic and comprehensive afterschool and summer day camp in the same program site, seamlessly providing access to therapeutic services and the best practices of youth development in one location.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

CPNYC maintains several government and philanthropic grants which support the direct service programming that the organization offers to its target population. These funding streams include federal, state and local funding sources for the provision of afterschool, summer day camp and mentoring services. The Government Contracts Assistant will provide ongoing support to the Director of Government Contracts in the below and other areas as assigned.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contract Compliance & Acquisition:

Assists with all government and foundation research and application submissions
Provide contract compliance assistance to ensure all contract requirements are met through the provision of reports (quarterly, biannual, and annual), procurement documents, budget documents and contract processing and maintenance
Assist with the maintenance of contract file systems that are aligned with auditing and funding requirements of the agency
Maintain a clear understanding of contract goals and expectations to ensure that all programmatic goals and contract requirements are being met
Other duties as assigned based on department and/or organizational need

Data Management and Evaluation

Ensure that all programmatic data systems are updated and aligned regularly
Ensure all programmatic data meets contractual and evaluative requirements and is being captured regularly and accurately
Provide ongoing support to the organizational evaluation processes through collaboration and the provision of data reports and data analysis
Other duties as assigned based on department and/or organizational need

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:

Commitment to CPNYC’s mission and work
An understanding of the issues that affect children impacted by parental incarceration
Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. Areas of study: Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or related field
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in the non-profit sector
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others and to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance program effectiveness
Strong computer skills and familiarity with data systems and data driven reporting
Excellent team player and be open to working in a fluid, fast paced environment with the ability to be flexible and adjust to claiming demands
Willingness to work as part of a team required; proven participation and ability to work collaboratively with internal team members and management staff for the purposes of achieving goals/objectives
