Founded in 1969, Centro Legal de la Raza (Centro Legal) is a comprehensive legal services agency focused on strengthening low-income and Latino individuals and families by providing free and low-cost, bilingual, and culturally competent legal representation, education, and advocacy. The mission of Centro Legal is to protect and expand the rights of low-income people, particularly monolingual Spanish-speaking immigrants, throughout the East Bay region of Northern California.
The Event Planning and Administrative Assistant at Centro Legal will provide short-term support to help plan and execute the organization’s annual fundraising Gala that takes place in April. Each year, the Gala hosts over 250 people and celebrates community leaders and the organization’s constituents. We are seeking an assistant to provide support primarily in the areas of data entry, communications, and other administrative duties. This position involves working closely with the Development Coordinator and the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties will include the following:
Assisting with all aspects of the April 2015 Gala; Assisting with Gala invitation mailing; Managing online ticket sales; Writing “thank you” letters to donors; Updating donor database; Designing event e-newsletters & other communications; Assisting with event promotion; Assisting with securing in kind support and auction donations; and Assisting the day of and at the Gala on Friday, April 10, 2015.
The following qualifications are preferred for the position.
A genuine passion and/or experience working on issues affecting low-income Latino immigrants; Interest in nonprofit fundraising; Strong ability to multi-task; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work independently and problem solve; Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint; Experience with social media (Facebook & Twitter); Familiarity with design software (Publisher); Familiarity with email services such as Constant Contact or Vertical Response; Spanish language skills are not required, but will be beneficial; and Familiarity with WordPress and/or website content management is not required, but will be beneficial.
Schedule: Part-time, temporary position. 15-20 hours per week. Flexible schedule during regular business hours (M – F, 9am – 5pm). Must be available on the day and evening of April 10, 2015.
Compensation: $14.10 per hour.
