Development Director – HumanitiesDC

Responsibilities
for this position are, but not limited to the following:
Develop and maintain ongoing relationship with major donors.
Secure financial support from government, corporate/foundations, and individuals.
Seek new grants by research, proposal writing, networking with foundation staff and meeting reporting requirements.
Create and track proposals and reports for government, foundation and corporate donations and grants.
Develop and execute HDC’s annual fundraising program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives and online giving initiatives.
Increase revenue from a diversified portfolio of donors (government, corporate/foundations, and individuals).
Build a planned giving program.
Design and implement an organizational fundraising strategy (short and long term).
Follow and update the strategic communications plan.
Evaluate new opportunities as they arise and determine relevance to strategy and income potential.
Maintain a grants calendar to ensure all deadlines for proposals and reports are met.
Develop and maintain a communications calendar.
Develop an in-depth understanding of the work of HDC to be an effective representative to donors (foundations, governmental agencies, corporate and individuals) and drive HDC’s communications.
Build and foster relationships with prospects and donors through visits, correspondence, and regular communication.
Oversee the maintenance and integrity of the CRM, website, social media, and other systems.
Other duties as assigned.
The Director of Development will work evenings and weekends as necessary to fulfill duties.

Credentials:
– Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years’ experience in development
– Demonstrated experience in securing funds for non-profits, DC, or humanities organizations
– Demonstrated experience and skills in obtaining grants and maintaining a grants portfolio
– Experience in internal and external communications both orally and in writing
– Strong organizational and management skills
– Self-starter who will take initiative for identifying and solving problems
– An understanding of the humanities disciplines.
– Technology: fundraising software, Windows operation system
