Development Associate – Seva Foundation – Berkeley, CA

285 million people in the world are blind, 80% can have their eye sight restored. Since 1978, Seva Foundation has supported the prevention of blindness in underserved communities around the globe. Seva works with local networks of eye care professionals to develop sustainable eye care systems. Every year we provide services to over 100,000 people in over 20 countries.

The Development Associate will support the Development Department in all aspects of fundraising. The position is responsible for a high level of development-related administrative work, as well as specially assigned projects. This position reports to the Director of Development.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:

Working with the Director of Development, develop strategies for the cultivation and stewardship of new donors, with an emphasis on young donors between the ages of 25-40 years
Receive and process information requests from donors and prospects and respond to donor inquiries
Conduct and present research on individual and organizational funding prospects
Assist with special events and donor cultivation events

Data Entry, Gift Fulfillment and Gift Acknowledgement:

Complete Raiser’s Edge gift entry and updates to donor records
Assist with Gifts of Sight, an alternative gift-giving campaign
Help prepare gift acknowledgement letters

Prepare Raiser’s Edge reports

Planned Giving:

Administrative support in managing the Planned Giving campaign

Research and prepare written materials and correspondence

Provide follow-up for information requests and assist with identifying new prospects

Other responsibilities:

Cross train with development staff to provide backup and coverage for vacation and peak periods
Provide administrative support with correspondence, reports and budgeting
Assist in assembling and researching donor-related content for written and online communications
Other activities as assigned


Undergraduate degree preferred
1-2 years relevant experience working in non-profit fundraising
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office products and relational database experience – Raiser’s Edge preferred
Excellent verbal and written skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and track deadlines
Careful attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work
Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
