Communications / Development Assistant – A Growing Culture – New York, NY

A Growing Culture (AGC) is a fast-growing, revolutionary organization supporting farmers to create a global food system that serves both people and planet. The current focus is the Library for Food Sovereignty, a cutting-edge online resource that connects farmers with each other and the world by curating and sharing site-specific farmer adaptations of ecological agriculture. This library, the world’s first democratically-governed, farmer-led, internet-based agroecology hub by and for farmers, supports AGC’s work on the ground with partner organizations, encouraging farmer innovation, farmer-led documentation and farmer-to-farmer exchange. However, AGC doesn’t stop at supporting an overhaul of the way we grow our food, AGC also works to revolutionize the way we see our farmers. Through its advocacy and communications work, AGC is putting farmers back in their rightful place at the steering wheel of our food systems.

The Role:

This paid internship position will work alongside the President on wide-ranging tasks: grant-writing, strategic development and program planning, communications (including writing, editing, social media), networking, budgeting, and research. Experience in wide-ranging roles within growing organizations is therefore preferred. Long-term projects will frequently be interrupted with urgent tasks so the ability to adapt to changing priorities and execute tasks in a timely fashion is essential. As the candidate will be working in person with the President for 2-3 days per week, the ability to work well through dialogue coupled with the initiative and follow through necessary to be productive alone are important. The ideal candidate will also possess focus and clarity of purpose, and balance a strong voice with a collaborative attitude.

This position will provide an opportunity for someone deeply interested in the agroecology movement to channel their passion into making a perceivable difference in the world while also undertaking significant professional development, learning the ins and outs of what it takes to manage an impactful global organization. The assistant will have access to our advisory board and extended network which includes several leaders of the movement. As the roles undertaken by the assistant resemble those of an Executive Director, the assistant role will grow into an Executive Director role as the organization grows, for the right candidate. This is the chance to step into a significant role with a game changing organization for the right individual.

Minimum Requirements:

NYC Resident, or available to meet in person and co-work with President in NYC for 2-3 days per week

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in relevant field
