College and Career Advisor – Students Rising Above – San Francisco

Key Responsibilities include:
Rising Stars Program:
Provide mentoring support to a cohort of students who come from low-income backgrounds via regular contact with students via email, phone calls, Zoom and in person meetings
Provide support and guidance in times of crisis
Assist in the planning and implementation of meetings/workshops with students covering topics including financial aid, financial literacy, college applications, what to expect in college and career development
Support with students’ on campus needs; ie- college course selection, joining clubs or sports teams, getting needed help (tutoring, healthcare), finding ways to feel connected and involved at school
Identify departmental points of contact at universities to develop relationships and enhance partnerships to better serve our students.
Participate in training for college access/success advisors and share learnings with rest of team
Provide career development support to students- resume, cover letters, interview prep and career coaching
Provide guidance with Financial Aid applications and appeals; review and approve student requests for funds from SRA for tuition and school related expenses
Collaborate with other staff and departments to ensure students receive comprehensive support services which may include but not limited to: Career Development, mentorship, tutoring, health care needs, etc.
Support with outreach and selection of new classes of students
Enter and update all required Salesforce data for students
Review data consistently and use collected data to recognize trends and inform advising practices

Commitment and Requirements:
Extensive travel throughout the Bay Area required
Position may include occasional travel for conferences or other program-related events
Because our students are in school during the day, advising often happens in the late afternoon or evening and on weekends. This position requires you to be available to work shifted hours (for instance, 12pm – 8pm) up to 3 days per week and Saturdays or Sundays throughout the year
Attend organization staff meetings and professional development opportunities
SRA is currently working 100% remotely. This role requires College and Career Advisors to meet in person with students and stakeholders with adherence to SRA in-person meeting policies. Candidates should live in the Bay Area or be willing to travel at their own expense for in-person meetings. SRA does not employ staff who live outside of the state of California.

Required Qualifications:
3+ years advising BIPOC high school and/or college students; experience should be from professional experience post undergraduate completion. Master’s degree preferred
Excellent project management skills and ability to provide individual guidance to a cohort of students
Strong computer skills; knowledge of Salesforce.com is a plus
Strong interpersonal skills and effective at building relationships with all stakeholders
Excellent judgment and problem solver; ability to coach students through difficult situations
An ability to work both independently and in a group environment
Flexible learner with the ability to reach out for help when support is needed
Commitment to a personal and professional exploration of power and privilege, including a willingness to self-reflect and experience discomfort in difficult and transformative conversations. Previous progress along this journey required
Current driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle
Holds self accountable, and consistently produces quality work
