Museum Mission to increase the awareness of aviation through the flight of historic aircraft while supporting the local Children’s Hospital

Museum Vision by aligning members aviation interests and skills and by teaming senior aviators, aviation maintainers, aircraft administrators, aviation historians and other experienced members interests with junior, new or interested members; the museum can warrant the historically significant items in its care to be available for generations to come

Museum Purpose to make available to the general public through its member’s efforts historically significant aviation artifacts locally at a home base and remotely through airshows flybys and distant events.

Museum Goal to improve by a minimum of 5 % per year the number of members, donations and grants received. To have a definitive number of member senior pilots, experienced maintainers and aviation support personnel to perform knowledge transfer to less experienced pilot and maintainers to keep historically significant aircraft flying.

Job Purpose

The Director of Development creates and implements a strategic approach to fundraising while directly solicits and collects major gifts, corporate donations, grant, in-kind resources and other not for profit funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Plan fund development activities

Reports to the Museum Manager with Oversight by the Board Of Directors
Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Museum Manager to implement a NFP fundraising software system and to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization
Implement the fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles
Solicits and collets funds in accordance with the fund development plan
Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved
Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary

Organize fund development activities

Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner
Develop policies and procedures for the museum which reflect ethical fundraising practices
Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization
Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization
Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization’s fundraising priorities
Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information
Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts

Staff funds development activities

In consultation with the Museum Manager, members and BOD select well-qualified fund development volunteer members and intern staff
Engage volunteer members for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices

Promote the organization

Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization
Develop a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts
Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor (BS) degree
A certificate in Fundraising Management

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of fundraising management
Knowledge of federal and state not for profit laws
Knowledge of special events planning and management
Knowledge of the management of volunteer resources
Knowledge of the Philanthropy’s Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code

Proficiency in the use of computer for:

Fund raising software
Word processing
Databases
Spreadsheets
E-mail
Internet
