Corporate / Foundation Gifts Manager – Rita Casey Consulting – San Rafael, CA

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is seeking a Corporate/Foundation Gifts Manager to coordinate donor stewardship, grant writing, and other major gift solicitation. The position identifies projects suitable for grant funding, researches and writes grant proposals, makes presentations to decision-making bodies, and builds strong relationships with corporate and foundation officers. The incumbent also designs and implements strategies and tactics to obtain corporate and organizational support for cause-related underwriting opportunities, major gifts and special purpose designated donations and interfaces with employee giving programs as well as presentations to local employee groups. Supervises part-time grant writer; reports to the Director of Philanthropy.


Identify program and capital needs for which GDB could generate grant support, match them to prospective contributors, and obtain internal approvals for submitting grant applications. Maintain up-to-date records on private and corporate foundations to readily ascertain prospects for a given program.

Ability to write and submit customized grant proposals with all required supporting documents in a timely manner. Serve as primary contact to foundation principals, coordinate site visits to Guide Dogs for the Blind, and meet with grantors at their offices. Maintain grant reporting calendar and provide interim and final grant reports as needed.

Coordinate all renewal solicitations of foundations/companies that routinely contribute to GDB, identify prospects for increased support, and follow-up with appropriate solicitations. Oversee solicitation of companies and organizations that support GDB events as benefactors and patrons.

Create strategies to increase support from active employee/employer giving programs. Serve as primary GDB contact for National Combined Federal Campaign and state employee campaigns. Renew applications annually and fulfill campaign speaking requests.

Manage the cause-related marketing program, consistent with established program guidelines. Submit proposals, negotiate contract agreements for leadership and Board approval and oversee corporate relationships.

Secure sponsorship opportunities to support Guide Dogs events.

Adheres to our organization’s safety policies and procedures and encourages others to do the same. Promptly reports incidents and accidents according to campus procedures.

Proven track record of researching, writing, and winning grants and other major gifts at the six-figure level.

In-depth knowledge of private and corporate foundations, and at least three years’ experience in professional fundraising positions, with grants responsibilities.

Self-starter with highly developed project management skills; team player able to develop and sustain excellent working relationships with management, volunteers, Board members, staff, grant officers and all contacted in the course of work.

Strong marketing, communications, and persuasive writing skills.

Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. Experience in Raiser’s Edge and in Microsoft applications desirable.

Ability to travel as needed, and to work nights or weekends as needed.

Undergraduate degree (English/Communications/Marketing preferred).
