The Staff Accountant reports to the Senior Accountant and is responsible for performing accounting and financial analysis duties as part of the Finance Department. This is a full time, non-exempt position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under general supervision, performs complex accounting duties including maintenance and analysis of accounting records, preparation of accounting schedules, and reporting;
Processes cash receipts including verification of revenue, data entry, coding and preparation of bank deposits;
Collects daily cash and sales packages, refilling and maintaining ATM machine as required;
Processes credit card receipts, including compiling and coding information from other departments. Agrees consolidated amounts to bank records, resolving discrepancies and reconciling credit card accounts monthly;
Processes Accounts Payable including receipt of vendor invoices, director approvals, proper general ledger coding, accounting system management, check generation and distribution including proper signatures.
Assists with the monthly close. Reconciles general ledger accounts and prepares journal entries;
Reconciles petty cash and bank accounts;
In coordination with other departments, reconciles and maintains accounts for pledges, birthday parties, and Not-A-School departments;
Prepares fund equity schedule and reconciles fund balances. Moves cash as appropriate;
Assists with the preparation and maintenance of budgets and projections;
Assists with the annual financial audit, including preparation of audit schedules, documentation review, and response to auditors’ requests;
Assists in the preparation and maintenance of accounting procedures manuals;
Assists with payroll processing as needed;
Performs ad hoc financial analysis as required;
Other Duties (10%)
Provides backup to Senior Accountant and other finance/HR staff members;
Assists with major Museum wide events as required;
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
BS in Accounting or related field required.
Three years of accounting experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Solid working knowledge of Excel, Word, and accounting software (Financial Edge knowledge helpful).
Not-for-profit and fund accounting experience preferred.
Ability to work as an individual performer and as part of a team
Must be detail oriented and organized with time and data
