Outreach Support Specialist – Network for Victim Recovery of the District of Columbia – Washington, DC

THE ORGANIZATION

Started in 2012, the mission of the Network for Victim Recovery of DC (NVRDC) is to empower crime victims in the District of Columbia through a collaborative approach by providing holistic, comprehensive services through community-based education, therapeutic, and legal support in order to achieve justice and encourage self-determination.

This agency employs a uniquely structured “shared leadership” model with two Co-Executive Directors operating together to make NVRDC a truly holistic agency that has strong relationships with other DC providers in hopes that the victim recovery process will become seamless.

THE OUTREACH SUPPORT SPECIALIST POSITION SUMMARY:

NVRDC seeks an Outreach Support Specialist to coordinate all outreach activities on behalf of the organization and provide administrative support to the co-executive directors. This individual will be resourceful, outgoing, highly organized, a team player, flexible, a critical and analytical thinker, self-reflective and self-aware. The Outreach Support Specialist will be committed to engaging with people from diverse cultural, linguistic, economic, educational and vocational backgrounds to demonstrate NVRDC’s dedication to social justice and access to justice for all victims of crime in DC.

This is a full-time, (40 hours per week) FLSA non-exempt, at-will employment position. Work hours will be adjusted based on outreach activities. Compensation: $40,000, plus benefits.

POSITION PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the Outreach Support Specialist is to educate and engage the general public about NVRDC services, this will include a specific focus on engaging traditionally underserved populations.

Specific responsibilities include:

The Outreach Support Specialist will supervise all organizational outreach activities to ensure their accordance with NVRDC’s states mission;
Develop targeted outreach plan and strategies to engage underserved populations in DC;
Coordinate with NVRDC’s volunteer programs to collaborate outreach and volunteer efforts;
Coordinate Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Monty, and National Crime Victims’ Rights activities and events;
Provide trainings and education to community groups (partner agencies, police departments, hospitals, churches, etc.);
Build and maintain relationships with local community partners’ outreach and volunteer programs;
Create and manage social media accounts and campaigns;
Coordinate special events including fundraising opportunities;
Report to Co-Executive Directors on a weekly basis to provide progress reports;
Maintain pre and post-test data for training events;
Assist with monthly billing tasks on behalf of the co-executive directors;
Assist in document preparation for grant reimbursement;
Manage outreach database and reporting functions;
Continue to grow and seek professional development opportunities for individual position(s) and organization; and
Performs other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate for this position must possess a combination of education and outreach experience that supports NVRDC’s mission to serve victims of crime and demonstrated experience related to administrative support. This position requires a self-starter who works well independently and as a team player.

Specific skills and background include:

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred (PR, Communications, Marketing, or related field);
2-3 years outreach experience;
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills;
Knowledge of victim services field;
Experience coordinating outreach and training events;
Effective written communication skills;
Experience working with volunteers;
Ability to support, network, and motivate staff;
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, anti-oppression, and/or ending gender-based violence;
Experience working for marginalized communities and crime victims;
Experience working with QuickBooks;
Experience working as administrative support;
Bilingual in Spanish or Amharic strongly preferred;
A reputation for integrity, dependability, and professionalism.
