Organization Overview:

The Rye Arts Center (“RAC”) is a nonprofit, multi-disciplinary, community arts organization located in Rye, NY. Its mission is to inspire interest and maximum participation in the arts in Westchester and the surrounding region. The RAC is committed to offering programs that are characterized by artistic tradition, educational value, and a spirit of innovation. The RAC offers a wide range of programming, including: art and music classes, STEM+Arts, gallery exhibitions, performing arts, and digital arts. With over 400 classes, programs, events and activities, the RAC reaches an audience of over 20,000 in the Sound Shore area. The RAC also offers educational outreach programs in and around the surrounding community. The 12,500 sq. foot facility hosts a new Makerspace along with painting, ceramics and dance studios. The annual budget is $1MM, with six (6) full time employees, three (3) part-time employees, an hourly maintenance staff, and independently contracted artists and musicians offering instruction.

Summary:

The RAC seeks an Executive Director (ED) who will oversee and lead the day-to-day operations of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will actively work with the Board to fulfill the organization’s mission and goals. The ED is responsible for managing a $1MM annual budget, meeting the financial goals established by the Board, fundraising and ensuring the financial health of the organization. The ED will manage a skilled staff to continue delivering quality programming, arts education and outreach, and to promote community relations. The ED will provide creative thinking and problem solving, an entrepreneurial spirit, a focus on strategic goals, and quick responsiveness to shifts in opportunities and issues. Effective communication of the goals and programs of a multi-arts organization in an array of settings is valued.

Skills and experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of combined work experience in a senior or leadership position, preferably management experience in nonprofit or arts organizations.

Development: Demonstrated ability to raise major gifts, solicit contributions directly and manage solicitation strategies. Knowledge of donor databases, experience with capital campaigns a plus.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and lead a team of artistic, administrative, technical, and financial staff, and board and volunteer committees.
Finance: Demonstrated record of providing oversight of: cash flow; accounting systems and reports; and budget development.
Marketing: Able to lead the vision for marketing plans across various platforms and media.
Technology: Proficient with technology and the changing environment and skilled in using such products as Microsoft’s and Google’s suites of products.
Administration and Operations: Familiar with nonprofit governance and legal compliance issues, facilities management, and human resources.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred.

Salary & Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The Executive Director should be available to assume responsibilities for this full-time position as soon as possible. Reimbursement for relocation expenses is not available.
