Definition: The Bookkeeper is a part-time position responsible for accurate record keeping and distribution of the church finances.
Objective: Ensure all contributions are received and credited properly, that all accounts are paid on time, and payroll and taxes are distributed on time. Prepare high quality internal monthly financial statements on a timely basis for review by the administrator and church council.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Count offerings and donations; make deposits; do bank transfers
Enter all invoices submitted for payment, cut checks, submit for signature, and prepare for mailing
Keep the check register and fund accounts updated
Reconcile bank statements monthly; monitor bank balance
Ensure accounting software setup supports Foursquare Church best practices while meeting the needs of Eastside staff and congregation
Process bi-weekly payroll and coordinate quarterly payroll tax reporting
Be aware of tax and labor laws; inform the staff of tax and labor law changes
Prepare month-end closing
Prepare monthly financial statements for Church Council
Ensure timely distribution of W-2s and annual contribution statements
Process background check requests and ensure accurate chargeback to departments
Assist with software vendor management related to accounting software, online contributions, and payroll.
Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and distribute monthly variance reports
Assist with the preparation of annual reports and the annual financial reviews
Special projects, as needed
